This is the first bad stretch theyve had all season. Its as though Red Sox fans think this team should win 130 games. Theyve overachieved all year
Which is nerve racking. It's been a great season for sure, but what did the Mariners accomplish the year they won 116 games? If it's not to win it all, then it's for nothing.

that's because the playoffs are always a crapshoot anyways. anything can happen, especially in a best of 5 series. baseball is super random.

It's why I love baseball for sure. Have a historic season then not make it into the ALCS? Quite possible. Not saying we're a lock to have a historic season, but it's been pretty special thus far.

The second bad stretch, and tbh is the main reason why I've been cautiously optimistic about this team

Granted it was when Mookie Betts was hurt and not playing, but the pitching was just not good, and that's what i'm scared about. This is a rotation with SO many question marks and you can't have bad pitching to win in the postseason.

David Price is a mental case, and if anybody gets in his head he's done. Certain members of this board have mocked Porcello's inconsistency before so I'll skip him, but E-Rod is young and still hurt. Eovaldi looks like his first two games were more of an anomaly than the rest, and that's four of your five man rotation.

The one guy you'd think you'd be able to trust is Chris Sale, who is currently injured (has pitched in one game over the past 30 days), but moreso has a history of being much more dominant mid-year than towards the playoff run.

Losing record in Sept/Oct, most HRs given up, and just more... he hasn't even been good with Boston in the postseason (0-2 record, 8.38 ERA). That's someone you can't just pencil in a victory for anymore (in the postseason at least)

Couple that with the fact that you're at "best" facing the Indians, who typically have your number, and it scares me that Boston would have to probably average 5 runs per game in order to win each series. The bullpen is trash, Kimbrel's been inconsistent.... just a lot to worry about as a team.

Now every team has major holes in their team as well, and Boston's been the best team all year. But in general (and I talk about it regarding the Patriots in Wk 1-4 every year) I'd rather a team lose in the regular season, learn to overcome what just happened, and be incredibly strong going into the postseason. We're a team that's faced very minor adversity and I'm not sure we have what it takes to overcome any struggle when the Yankees have been doing it for a few months now, or Houston or Cleveland. Hell, Oakland's a perfect example -- a .500 ballclub thru May and has been the 2nd best team in the league since June 1. They took that adversity and overcame it and now are rolling.

Idk, just an overly cautious Red Sox fan lol

Yeah I'm not gonna say we suck or that I'm disappointed, just cautious about getting excited over a good regular season. Something worth noting there BoSox, that Sale has always pitched more in the latter parts of the season. Aside from June, he's got more IP and games played in August/September/October. Most teams he's been on have needed him to be the workhorse late in the season to make a playoff push, if one was to be made. Now, we can sit back and let him heal. Here's to hoping that will help curb some of the late season issues we've seen from him in the past.

So what the hell are we discussing? If the Red Sox play great and win 120 games, it still doesnt mean anything.

If they win a shitload of games, it doesnt mean anything. But if they have a bad stretch they suck. Some backwards logic tbh.

Exactly. A random Sox player might go hot at the right time and just be unconscious st the plate.

No, just baseball like I said in a previous post today - I didnt say we sucked, just frustrated that our record is so good but if the pitching doesnt get their act together its all for nothing.

Speaking your political mind on social media almost always incurs backlash at some point, particularly for those who have any kind of spotlight on them.

I'm amazed we got anything for him. Finally Mets made a smart move.
