Lavar Ball said the Lakers will make the playoffs next year if they draft Lonzo

Gsw spurs houston okc denver portland utah grizzlies all will be going for the playoffs obviously

Clippers too if cp3 n blake stay

Possibly even minny can be knocking on the door next year

I dont see the Lakers in, but maybe around 9-11 if it all goes well

I went to bed midway thru the 2nd because it was pretty obvious the game was over but from watching the highlights --

1. This is why Markelle isn't going to the Bulls. Jimmy Butler isn't good enough to beat the Cavs

2. If Lebron wins the Finals i'm putting him above MJ #fightme

I don't know why people don't think Isaiah can't play with Fultz. Both of them are very capable off ball, and the combo of them running P&R is unbelievable. its obv not a strong defensive line, but they'll make it work.

Isaiah's still very much safe. One of Crowder or Bradley, however, lost a good amount of job security imo

I wasn't talking about the fit, I was talking about the crazy amount of money the Celtics would ultimately end up paying for a team that still probably won't make it out of the east for at least a few more years.

If they max IT after next season, that will be nearly 2/3 of their cap tied up between him and Horford alone.

What if they get Hayward this summer?  Do they still max IT?  Clearing the space to get Hayward is going to completely gut the team.

IT
Fultz
Hayward
Crowder
Horford

As it stands right now, that would be the core of the team after next season.  Then they'd have to decide whether or not to give Smart and Bradley 20+ million... That's certainly a strong team in the east, but how confident are you in that team being a serious title contender?  They'd have to fill out the rest of that roster with players off the scrap heap and late draft picks.

I don't know much about the Celtics or what their plans are moving forward,  I'm just wondering if it would be smarter to either let Thomas walk, or trade him in order to have more flexibility down the line.

I didn't see the game but I saw the highlights of Marcus Smart trying to cover LeBron & Love. What a gameplan

I was listening to 98.5 yesterday (Boston's sports radio) and Wyc Grousbeck was on and he alluded to being able to pay the luxury tax, so he can make it work if we went over.

It's definitely a dilemma worth discussing for what to do. Just a short breakdown of everything

• Thomas, Bradley, and Smart are all FAs in 2018. Thomas will get $25M+, if not a max, per year. Bradley should get $20M+, especially with guys like Oladipo making that much despite being a good amount worse than AB. Unless Smart somehow decides to shoot next season, I'd be surprised if his value hit $12M per year. He's still my favorite player, but he's a role player off the bench until he can shoot.

• Boston will sign a FA for a lot of money. Whether thats Hayward, Blake, Millsap, Ibaka -- the only scenario where I don't see Boston adding a solid piece in FA is if we trade into that space for a solid piece like PG13.

To get the space for Hayward, the roster would be the following:

Thomas, Smart, Fultz, Bradley
Crowder, Brown, Horford, rights to Zizic (very ikely to join team next season)

It's a very small team, with only 2 of the 9 players on roster being bigs and only one of them with any NBA experience. Maybe Yabusele's rights could still provide the space too but even so thats another player with no experience. You'd have to fill the remaining roster spots with MLEs and vet min bigs. But its a talented roster at that.

Looking past next season, it doesn't make sense to commit long term money to all four of those guards unless the intention is to be out-rebounded every game with Crowder/Jaylen playing the 4. So one of those guys will not be on the team in 2019. Smart is clearly the worst of the 4, but he's a lot easier to afford than AB and IT. Avery will have a HUGE market, because unlike Thomas he can fit on any team's system right away as a lockdown 3&D. So with Fultz in the waiting, it does make sense for Isaiah to be the odd-man out, but at the same time this team without Thomas is not good.

--------

So its all about this offseason for what to do. If you plan to not have Bradley/Smart/Thomas in 2019, you should trade them now and get value in return. Bradley could be moved and the roster outlook doesnt change much (Jaylen/Marcus starts, and it builds to become Fultz's spot soon). But if you move Isaiah, you have to honestly move the other valued pieces because its the other direction. Flip Bradley to someone like Minnesota or Philadelphia for their pick, idk. But we're not contending without Isaiah.

The pick is no longer tradeable for just jimmy butler, you have to get more for Fultz.

But if you could trade Bradley, Brown, plus for butler, you should right?
