I respect KD even more for taking that discount. It's Brady-esque -- taking less so the team can win more

Nowhere close to the same IMO. Hard cap vs. soft cap makes all the difference, the NBA cap is more of a guideline.
 
You really think the Warriors would go to being arguably the best team of all time to no longer the top team in the league because a guy like Shaun Livingston or Iggy walked?

Kind of, not really. It went up like $20 million so teams signed guys like Mozgov, Turner, etc to large $$ contracts. Now so many teams are strapped for cash.

Teams would have to be smarter with their cap space. Players are getting the max simply based off of potential at this point. If a guy like Damian Lillard got paid his value, you wouldn't have guys like Evan Turner on the team with $70 million contracts. The stars get more, but the role players, bench guys would get less so it will never happen. The max salary is just dumb though, no other sport has it for a reason
