not sure if its just michigan but high school pitchers now have a mandatory pitch count. thats a good move.

I'm really not sure a mandatory pitch count is a good idea.  Nolan Ryan said the way to build up arm strength is to throw the ball a lot.  He would have laughed at a pitch count.  If kids learn to spin the ball properly, with their fingers, not their elbows, they could throw 150+ pitches without damaging their arms at all.

Not sure the solution of teaching every kid in america how to throw properly is doable.

High school coaches, and even college coaches don't care about these kids, they care about winning and their job, so they'll gladly blow their arms out knowing they only have them for a couple of years.

The problem is there are many theories but none are definitive. One I tend to agree with is middle school and high school kids playing 1 sport rather than 2 or 3. More stress on those specific ligaments at a young age. Again I have no fuckin clue if thts even accurate.

no offense, but thats an old fashioned way of thinking. and its not that easy to do, and probably not helpful at all. limiting the amount of pitching will help. the amount if injuries for pitchers is climbing. its much like the nba where everyone wants to shoot the ball and doesnt practice the fundamentals. in baseball everyone wants to throw heat. not a recipe for success for a young kid.

Throwing heat is a huge problem. And comparing that to the NBA is ludicrous.

Best thing MLB could do is to take the radar gun away.

im not comparing the two. im comparing kids not trying to learn the full game, just one thing and sticking to that - whether theyre doing it the right way or not.

Anyone have MLB.TV and want to help me? Trying to figure out how to start the game from the beginning and without seeing the score. on PS4 it gives me the option when I select the game but on my computer it doesn't give me the option. I have scores turned off but as soon as I click on the game it goes to live and the score shows up at the time.

I have taught some kids to pitch at my local high school.  I never pitched much myself, as I have no command of any quality pitches, but I know how to show grips and how to spin the ball properly.  One of my kids threw an entire game without throwing a single four-seam fastball, using only his 2-seamer, change and slider.  He didn't like to throw a curve until I showed him a safer way to do so.  The way he learned to throw it hurt his arm too much.  He pitched another game against the same team using only his 4-seamer and the curve I showed him.  He won both games 2-0 and threw 2 complete games in the process.

I don't think there's a way around it. Just have to put blinders on

Indians sweeping the Rangers and Lucroy to open the season would be quite nice
