I know, but you have a better chance of winning a game 5 with your best starter on the mound.
 
You have a greater chance of losing a game 4 by throwing your best starter into an unaccustomed high-stress relief role.  I have no problem with him in relief, but the timing was bad.
 
Doesn't make sense to me.
 
Unless of course, like you mentioned, he would have started Price in game 5.  In all honesty, I don't think that was Farrell's thought.

Going to Sale is fine in that situation. If you don't win, there's no game 5 to worry about. Trying to stretch him to 5 innings is where I thought the Sox messed up.
 
The Astros using Verlander in relief was more puzzling. He had never made a relief appearance before today and he's absolutely lights out in elimination games. They went out and got him to pitch in big spots like game 5 would have been, and they had the luxury of being able to plan ahead for a game 5.

Using Verlander seemed fine to me. You had the lead, and a chance to knock them out instead of having to play another game where anything could happen

Yeah I don't get why everyone is hating on Houston using Verlander in that spot. It's not like they're throwing out some scrub for Game 5 as a result -- it would have been Keuchel and he would have done just fine against the Sox
 
They wanted to get the win today and prepare with as much time as they can for Cleveland/NYY. Throw in Verlander for 4 innings today, try to get the win, and then you'll still have him to start Game 1 of the ALCS on Friday. Use the best guys you have available, period.

You need to be able to field a bit to play 1B.  Not sure Devers is quite ready for that big a move.  Let him work with some of the Sox coaches this winter.
