i didnt mean a specific year that he was the outright favorite
 
• '17 MDA -- 3 seed, +14 win increase
• '16 Kerr -- 73 wins (record breaking)
• '15 Bud -- 1 seed, +22 win increase
 
To get the award, Stevens would need a massive jump and I think he's too high up the rank to get the award. like if dwane casey didnt finally figure it all out this year, i'd say brad deserves it this season for currently projecting to beat the season's over/under with hayward missing the entire season. but i'll give it to casey. and if we say win 61 games next year, its the 57 win team just winning four more games... not enough to warrant whats in practicality the Most Improved Coach award
