Id be willing to admit that Im pretty impressed with the raptors lately. But we all gotta admit, it would be REALLY funny if they do the same shit in the playoffs again this year.

That team would still be a 3-4 seed, not rebuilding at all
Agreed, but the goal is to be better than the Warriors. They would need to rebuild to get there

That depends on timing though, right? They could sign LeBron first (for example) and then match on Capela afterwards and go over the cap, right? They would pay that luxury tax, but could still technically do it.

yea but thats completely different. if you dont keep cp3(then just assume lebron isnt signing there), then you decide to rebuild, you dont keep clint

BP, i hear your point, and I do accept it. You cant deny it. I just believe that after watching this team for 3/4 of the season, maybe this is something bigger than their past. MDA's teams never played defense, yet this one has been hovering around the top 10 in defensive efficiency all season. With their big 3 on the court, this team has lost 1 game all year long (I'm pretty sure that's still the case). Harden's disaster in Game 6 last year was of exhaustion and him giving up. He hasnt had to work nearly as hard this year and has a guy who can help carry the weight at his level for the first time. You can say the same for CP3. They have each never played with someone as good as the other (Dont @ me about Harden with OKC, Harden's true career began when he got his own team).

There are some pretty solid reasons to believe that this Rockets team is a legit contender. I am a firm believer in the fact that the Warriors are the best until somebody beats them. I won't believe otherwise until I see it, but this Rockets team has a legit chance. Especially if they hold on to this #1 seed.
Everything you’re saying is completely fine. But just because they’ve played spectacular for 3/4 of the season, you cant blame people for bringing up their past and talking about harden/cp3/dantoni shitting the bed in the playoffs because they have done that many times before, you know. All you can do is wait and have them prove people like me wrong. And i will continue to sing the same song until they prove me wrong, which shouldnt upset you. What i say about their past is straight facts. Id understand your point if i was making shit up, and saying they’ll choke when they have never choked before but they have, so until they prove people wrong, the disappearing/choke narrative will stay around

To your point about this team being the best each of these guys have had tho. Yes, no doubt. 30-1 with harden/capela/cp3 playing together or something like that. Thats impressive, and no one is knocking that. But again, its the regular season and we have seen these guys/their teams have amazing regular seasons before and then playoffs come and they dont reach expectations.

One thing i find impressive is the defense, like you said. You’re right, this is probably first Dantonis team with good defense so hopefully that helps in the playoffs. First seed would also absolutely help but the rest of your schedule is tough and imo yall will end up the 2nd seed.

Im very curious to see how this team performs in the playoffs tho, should be fun. But you better believe ill be rooting for a classic harden/cp3/dantoni exposure :)

Worst case is CP3 leaves for another team and Rockets are back in rebuild mode. The Rox match any offers Capela gets. Then they go hard core after LeBron to no avail.
I truly doubt cp3 leaves. If he does tho, i dont see Lebron wanting to join. Cp3 would be the guy that could bring Lebron in.

Lmao i feel the same 100%. I do want the Raptors to not shit the bed tho because JV is on that team and him making the finals would be awesome for my country

Im gonna try to find a post i saw on reddit. One of the best posts ive seen explaining everything how its basically not possible to get Bron and then Capela back. Even getting Bron without Capela would be tough.

Bosox if youre on your computer, itd be easier to find it for you. It should be under top posts of the month. Do it, its a great posts and it explains the salaries and everything else we need to know

I feel like we wants this to happen, but if it did happen and the finals sucked then we’d all be saying how much better it would have been if it was warriors vs cavs haha

I don't know the numbers but it's because you have to renounce a player's bird rights to get rid of his cap hold, i.e. being able to sign LeBron, hence you cannot go over the cap to re-sign Capela

im all for parity. i know the celtics are the celtics but this team is 150% different from the last time they won so its OK, and they have the story with kyrie.

Oh im all for King Kyrie beating Bron. Thatd be lit

But i dont know man, i dont know

Raptors would be cool. If they play in the playoffs the way they’re playing now, they really do have a shot. But again, it all comes down to what we know from the past and what we know, isnt that good.

Hopefully its a different story this time around

I mean the Rockets can trade Anderson, Tucker, and picks for Lebron and it essentially works. Both teams are over the cap, the finances are fine as long as its within 25%

Now obviously Andersons contract sucks. But the cavs are fucked regardless due to their current deals to Love, TT, Hill, etc. If the Rockets give picks it can surely happen

James Harden $30,421,854
LeBron James $35,607,969
Eric Gordon $13,500,375
Nene $3,651,480
Chris Paul $35,350,000
Trevor Ariza $12,000,000
Clint Capela $25,250,000
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute $1,853,941
Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception $5,269,889
6 veteran minimums $4,987,866

TOTAL 167,893,374

“This would go flying past the list of most expensive teams of all time. It would be an absolutely staggering $67M over the cap, and even as a non-repeater team, the luxury tax bill would be over $318M.”

This is what we could see next season assuming Cavs would accept Anderson, Tucker, Onuaku, and 4 future firsts or some shit like that. Not to mention they would still have to accept paying the luxury tax even being a non contender and without Lebron

That hurts. Obviously anything is possible, but its just hard to imagine all of it going down
