Those guys are nice players, but they aren't needle movers. They're role players, glue guys. Nothing more. It would be mismanagement by Boston and would be terribly overvaluing those "assets" if they wouldn't move them for a guy that impacts the game like Harden. Those three guys are expendable and replaceable because Ainge has proven that he can find those kinds of guys on the open market and Stevens has proven he can optimize their skill sets.

All jokes aside, Harden is overrated. He moved the needle to the 8th seed, with 7 wins less than Boston. His defense is terrible and his impact on a locker room doesn't seem to be positive, at all. He is an offensive superstar, but at the cost of a predictable offense. If I had to choose which players I'd want on my team, I lean towards those Celtics players along with the pick.

But is harden a bad defender, or is he just lazy? Clearly his heart wasn't in it this season, and McHale was fired because of it, but we saw in 14-15 that he can be a two-way player. If he did go to Boston in that deal, there are few coaches better than Brad Stevens in the league. Maybe it wouldn't work out, but if Harden bought in, that's a good deal for Boston.

Don't know if I prefer a good defender who you can't count on to spontaneously not give a fuck over an average defender who works his butt off every possession.

Also I wouldn't call it 100% laziness. Losing focus of your assignment on a regular basis isn't just being lazy, it's showing lack of defensive understanding.

this is a fine opinion to have, but I ain't gonna accept an opinion of Marcus Smart having all star potential.

@nola

I'm not saying you don't move the guys. I'm saying you don't move all four, especially for Harden

I have no problem moving 2-3 for a star (prefer Butler to Harden) but 4 is ridiculous. We're probably not going anywhere with the squad we have now, but we definitely aren't with that trade

Again, if your starting 5 includes Turner, Harden, and Isaiah (that's what it'd be if we did that deal), you are hardly making the playoffs. They are all the same ball-first type of player that wouldn't feed off each other well

It's a way to get a superstar
Stop overhauling your assets bosox and ainge

Plus the Celtics could always sign a replacement for crowder. Bazemore?

The Cavs traded Wiggins and Anthony Bennett for Kevin Love. Why would Boston give up so much more than that for Harden? Yes Harden is better than Love, but Smart has a lot more value now than Bennett did, and he's probably the least valued asset in that deal in league's perspective.

It's a massive overpay. You want to do Bradley, the Brooklyn pick, and Smart/Crowder for Jimmy Butler? I'm down. I'm not averse to moving the assets we have for talent -- that's why we have them. But it's an overpay for Harden, especially because Harden isn't a good fit with Isaiah

And Bazemore literally would be more expensive than Crowder. Jae doesn't make more than $7.8M in a season over the next 5 years. I don't care if he's nothing more than a 3&D player -- the contracts that guys like Harrison Barnes and Evan Turner will get this offseason will blow the Crowder contract away.

Smart has a lot more value than Bennett did at the time? Maybe. But who/what in that deal has anywhere near the value of wiggins?

The Brooklyn pick.

All these deals involving the pick are obviously assuming its a top 2 pick. I think you would agree with me that Ingram ≥ Wiggins.

IMO the valuation of the two deals

people were already calling bennett a bust when he was traded
Ingram/Simmons, Wiggins, Crowder, Bradley, Smart, Bennett

I wouldn't agree with that at all. I love BI but wiggins was a MUCH bigger prospect coming out.

I guess that was just me -- I always thought of Wiggins as the 3rd best from that draft personally (Jabari 1, Embiid 2, Wiggins 3)

Either way, Ingram is a huge asset
