That's an awful deal Mexi

The Celtics are built around defense, and you literally just traded the only 3 good defensive players on the team for the guy known for not playing defense.

I wouldn't move more than two of those assets for Harden. Nor should Houston be thinking of trading the only talented piece on their team

The Celtics are great at wanting talent for nothing

Guess I'm not seeing why that deal is so bad for Boston. Smart is essentially Oman Shumpert, and Crowder and Bradley are good players, but not cornerstones.

It's about value, and how much the player's value affects a team

Jae Crowder was ranked 25th in the league in Wins over Replacement at 7.56, which is just below Carmelo Anthony's 7.83. Yet in that Top 25, Crowder is only one of five players who make less than $10M a year -- two of those five are on rookie contracts, and another is Isaiah Thomas. I'd have to say his $35/5M deal that kicks in next year is probably the best valued in the entire NBA (WoRP / salary). That's a player that every team wants. He is a solid offensive player (.565 TS%), was one of the better players in the league at producing steals, and has the physical versatility to guard 3s and 4s without giving up too much leverage.

Smart is the freaking soul of this team. His numbers are a lot worse than his output on the court, and while he is still pretty raw offensively, he shows all star potential. He never gives up on a play, whether going for rebounds or on defense. You liken him to Iman Shumpert, and that's not an awful comparison if you are solely basing it on reputation and not watching a single game. Look at Game 4 -- Paul Milsap had 43 points and was tearing apart the Celtics. Brad puts Smart (6'4") to guard the 6'9" Milsap, and he goes 1-7 in that matchup, with the one basket being 2 feet from the hoop. He plays tough to every matchup he's put on -- and that's not the first time he's done this. He's matched up on Dirk, on Boogie, on CP3, on Westbrook. In the Celtics win over the Cavs this year, the Celtics needed to miss a FT and get the rebound to have a shot to win -- and Smart outmuscled 7' Mozgov for possession. He's shown that he has the ability to potentially guard almost anybody, and that's such a vital key to have. His offensive game may never be good, but his energy is what drives the team forward, and at worse he's a slightly worse Tony Allen (which I'll take any day).

I understand you have to trade away value to get value in return. If Houston is serious about rebuilding and want to dump Harden, then I have no problem with moving Bradley (also on a great contract and is going to be an All-Defensive 1st team member this year), the Brooklyn pick, and more future assets. I might even throw Smart in the deal if need be. But you cannot trade all four of those pieces without guarantee that Kevin Durant is coming to Boston. If we did that trade, and didn't get KD, it might just be the most redundant backcourt of all time. Two left handed scorers who are basically defensive liabilities, and both want to run the show together. Isaiah and Harden are probably an awful pairing, to be honest.

I just cannot be behind moving four of the only five true assets we have on the team for Harden. Now, if for some stupid fucking reason that was the offer for Westbrook, I'm signing it in a second. But trading those guys away does not make this team better.

That's why I added the line break -- I assumed you ignorantly wouldn't read the first half

You lost me at the Marcus Smart all-star potential line, but I'll read it after work and respond appropriately about how if Ainge values these guys the same way you do, the Celtics will never move them and be stuck in mediocrity unless they brainwash Durant into coming to Boston.
