Cavs might not match on Delly either, because they are now forced to overpay JR Smith because of how bad Shumpert is, and they're going to find it difficult getting out of Shumpert's contract.

Just posted this on Reddit, but I totally forgot that KD will play in his 10th year this coming season

Zero percent chance he doesn't sign a 1+1 deal this summer, whether with OKC or with another team.

Exactly
All KD talk is truly a waste of time

KD taking meetings is him just being polite

I mean he easily could sign a 1 year deal with another team, and then re-sign then. Like, if he really wanted to sign with the Spurs, he doesn't have to wait a year in Oklahoma City this year. But he'd still sign essentially a 1 year contract, and then sign the $164M deal in 2017.

But it makes most sense to try one more time with the Thunder and then go through this process.

Especially when he and russell could be free agents at the same time

Kevin Durant does not strike me as the kind of person who wants to go through this two years in a row. I'll make a bold prediction and say he signs long-term, or at the very least will not take meetings next summer, and will sign long-term with whoever he picks now. He wouldn't be doing these meetings if he was 100% on OKC, either.

It makes no sense to not do the 1+1 deals, though. Sure its stressful to do this 2 years in a row, but is it "throw away $70-90M" stressful?

Durant doesn't have to stay in OKC to make a ton of money. He can sign with the Spurs on a 1+1 and then re-sign with SanAn on a 4 year deal in 2017. Its either a $120M/4yr deal or a $192M/5yr deal from the Spurs... and you're saying he should take the first option?

I'm saying I think he'll be okay if he has to settle for 120 mill.

I'm probably wrong here, but i'll stick with it

No it wouldn't. There is no scenario where signing a long term deal makes sense for Durant, whether its in Boston or Oklahoma City.

Now for 2017 on the other hand, when Boston could have $20M in salaries and $80M+ cap space technically, with everyone as a FA (Durant, Westbrook, CP3, Griffin, etc)

;)
