I just love it when you say the team with the #2 offense and the 3rd best record in the league isn't a contender

Like clearly they are.

playoffs a different animal. need defense.

warriors were insane on the offensive side the last two regular seasons and what happened in the playoffs each year, it wasnt the same

rockets are dope, dont get me wrong. but theyll fold in the playoffs just like every Dantonis team does

and its not just the rockets bc of mexi or some shit

ive always been against teams who rely heavily on the jump shooting

and the rockets rely on it even more than the warriors ever did which can go very well some games but can also go reaaaly wrong when the shot is off for a few games

this is a joke, right?

2005 -- lose to Spurs (won title) in WCF
2006 -- lose to Mavs in WCF, with no Amare (injury)
2007 -- lose to Spurs (won title) in 2nd round
2008 -- lose to Spurs in 1st round

2008 they did that dumb ass Marion for Shaq trade that fucked up DAntoni's system, and the other 3 years they lost to the WCF Champions. It's not like Chris Paul's teams that can't even make the WCF... MDA's squads always were really good but just faced really good competition. Those Spurs teams in 05 and 07 were REALLY good

To say Houston doesn't really have a shot because of the Suns track record is just so dumb. They're below the Spurs and Warriors, but to count them out is just pure naiveté

You didn't even mention the Robert Horry bodyceck of Steve Nash leading to Raja Bell and Stoudamire being suspended for game 5 in Phoenix in the 2007 series

This also completely ignores why the Rockets play the way they do and shoot as many 3s as possible. They're not nearly as talented as GSW, the only way they can beat Golden State is by playing in a style that increases the variance. Ideally the Rockets would play extremely slow against the Warriors but by shooting 60 3s a game they increase their odds of winning a game, but they do also increase their odds of getting blown out which will likely just be attributed to a lack of defense rather than actually understanding their play style

we can bicker here all night, i dont believe in teams that rely on jump shooting this much and expect to beat teams in the playoffs without defense. simple. like it or not, i dont give a fuck, if they win, good for them

But teams that post up and rely on the mid range can beat teams without defense? Is this a jump shooting thing or a lack of defense thing?

Also, "reliant on jump shooting", in terms of the percentage of the team's attempts by distance --

Rockets shoot 5th most from 0-3 ft, 25th from 3-10ft, 30th in 10-16ft, 30th in 16ft < 3pt, and 1st in 3pt.
Again, these are percentages of the shots taken, not the efficiencies of them going in.

Rockets are not a jump shooting team at all. They are a 3pt shooting team, which is completely different. They shoot in the most efficient spots on the floor -- at the rim, and behind the arc. It's actually really smart basketball.

he adds defense to his claim because its already been proven that jump shooting teams can win it all

It's a very convenient argument

obviously not talking about the midrange when we are talking about the houston rockets/dantonis system and i say jump shooting.

again, those threes can be analytically the right thing to do, but my point is they will have cold days. defense in the playoffs is different, the preassure is different, it wont be as easy as it is now for them #foldingchairs
