Fuck, this years jays were incredible though. They definitely had one of the best offenses in league history, and I'm looking forward to watch them crush it again next year.

It sucks that playoff baseball is such a crapshoot though. oh well.

I just want the Mets to win the World Series, I dont think thats too much to ask. I thought this team would win 84 games, get 2nd place in the division and be a feel good story for next year. They make the playoffs and I thought they would lose to the Dodgers. But they beat the Dodgers and sweep the Cubs. Im gonna be devastated if they lose now.

The baseball Gods are cruel....

Im kind of glad we're facing the Royals. Both teams would be a tough matchup anyway, but to me it came down to this - Jays lineup can change the game with one swing of the bat, and Ned Yost will be the X-Factor.  And now we've got many BLue Jays fans on our side because of Syndergaard & d'Arnaud.

Mets in 6

It's too bad the Jays couldn't have used some of that regular season run differential as ammunition

Mets are a super good team. They have the best rotation in the league and their lineup is very good. Gonna be a good series. Go get your ring Thor <3

I'm a troll at heart man, it's what I do.  I can't help my nature.

Really though, it'll be interesting.  Mets starting pitching is insane, but I think we have an edge in every other aspect of the game.  And as for the pitching, it's kind of strength on strength there.  You guys throw the most pitches 95+, we're the best at hitting 95+.

I think it comes down to whether we can get solid outings out of Cueto/Ventura.  Both of them are insanely talented, but maddeningly inconsistent.  We need them to go a little deeper so we can send the game to the bullpen.  Davis/Herrera are insane this year.  Hoch has been a welcome surprise too.  I still have faith in Madson even though he got lit up by Joey Bats. Except for games 3/5, we handled the Blue Jays lineup pretty well, so I have to believe we'll be able to figure it out.

I think the playoff experience for the Royals will help too.  We went to the top of the mountain last year and got punted off by a baseball playing cyborg. We just beat the clear cut favorites in the AL (we were Vegas dogs in every game and every single expert under the sun picked against us), we came back from deficit after deficit to beat the Astros.

Put a gun to my head, I think with the home field, the experience, and having to go a little deeper against both the Astros/Jays will help us out here and we win the series in 6 hard fought games.  Probably looks like the Jays series.  Win two at home, take 1 of the 3, then win 1 of the 2 at home.

I'm fucking ecstatic to be back here (and excited to head to the Big Apple the first time on Saturday).

Go Royals

I think the Mets do have the advantage here. The only issue would be getting their offense going, but the Royals rotation does not look to be in good shape. Cueto has been in the shitter ever since getting to KC, and I find Ventura to be a tad overrated. He throws super hard, but he doesn't put up the strikeout numbers you'd expect from it. Not sure what the issue is there. Secondary pitchers aren't that good, his fastball is straight? I don't know

But you're right about the Royals offense. Their approach works against high velocity pitchers.

I'd take the Mets in 5 or 6.

That seems a little unfair.  We got lit up in games 3/5, but in our four wins we held the vaunted Blue Jays offense to eight runs.  Cueto got lit up in game 3 and Volquez ran out of gas in game 5 (I still have a bone to pick about that strike zone, but that's baseball.  I'm sure Jays fans aren't too happy about the one at the end of the game on Friday), but aside from that, we pitched well enough to win with our offense and bullpen.

We don't need our starters to go 6,7,8 deep because of our bullpen.  Duffy, Medlin, Hochevar, and Young are all very capable long relief guys and Herrera/Davis are lights out at the end of the game.  Volquez is solid and can get us to our bullpen without giving up too much damage.

Cueto and Ventura have major consistency problems, but they've both been lights out at moments two postseasons.  I don't think it's fair to say Cueto has been 'in the shitter' since he went to KC.  He has been maddeningly incsonstent, but he's thrown some absolute gems since he's been here.  Ventura just went 5.2 of 1 run ball against the Jays (which, again, is more than enough with our pen) and he pitched 7 innings of shutout ball against the Giants in a do or die game 6 last year.  Cueto retired 19 straight against the Astros in a do or die game 5 less than two weeks ago.

They could both implode, but I wouldn't count on it.  We're not dominating like the Mets, but with our bullpen/offense/defense, they're more than enough to get the job done.

Was about to say, the royals essentially just need to keep it close for 6 innings and hand it off to their bullpen. They miss holland but they're still very good. I don't think the mets have anywhere close to the bullpen KC has

The KC bullpen is better because Holland is out. They don't miss him at all.

Given how much Ryan Madson has sucked in the playoffs, that is very false.

no he's right. Holland pitched pretty terribly until he was shut down to have Tommy John surgery.  It's because of the UCL injury, but he's still been terrible.  Madson hasn't pitched well, but even after his 'oops' moments against Houston and Toronto, I'd still have more confidence in him than Holland if he hadn't been shut down.

Holland was walking people at an astonishingly high rate, and just wasn't himself all throughout the year. I imagine he was dealing with arm stuff all year given how his season ended, but yea, he wasn't pitching well, and Yost was not going to take him out of the closer role. They're so much better with Wade Davis finishing games.
