Well as I said, I'd rather have Lin out there who will at least make Lillard work on both sides of the ball, instead of Beverley, who is not going to slow him down at all, and pretty much allows Lillard to take a breather on defense.

Lillard is going to get his, Aldridge is going to get his. This much you're not stopping.

For the first 3 quarters, Bev was chasing down rebounds and making consistent offensive plays, even if it wasn't always putting the ball in the basket. FWIW, Lillard quite simply played poor defense, last night. Lin slashed to the hoop multiple times with next to no resistance (not that it mattered, because he couldn't hit a hot girl's dumb friend with Tiger Woods as his wingman).

While I understand your opinion about Bev's offense, you need to stop just simply looking at the stats. Patrick Beverly's impact can't necessarily be measured by a statsheet.

FTR, he was up in the +/- for most of the game, I believe.

Anyway, on today's games.

I really think Memphis is going to get swept. A healthy OKC is a nightmare matchup for them because OKC has too much firepower to be slowed down to the 80-90 point range. It just isn't going to happen barring a dual Durant/Westbrook off night.

I never thought the Warriors could compete without Bogut, and I firmly expect LAC to reestablish dominance tonight, but by God do I hope GSW can win again. Chris Paul does not deserve a title or even a chance at a title. Way too dirty of a player, way too much of a demonstrative whiner. If karma exists, he's a prime example of it coming back to haunt when it matters.

Maybe in a normal situation but with James Harden also out there on defense, BWare has a point. The Rockets have played a lot better with Beverly and that's not a coincidence. I think the fact that they have to rely on him so much for a spark proves they aren't an elite team but it's hard to argue he doesn't make a difference.
I'm talking strictly this match up. Beverley is a pesky, hustle defender. But he's by no means some physically gifted lock down play making defender. He'll get on your nerves, but Lillard should have no issues. Aside from one 1-10 fluke performance (in a win no less), he's been dropping 20+ on Houston consistently. I'd rather have the extra fire power on offense, because you're going to need it against Portland

Quick Update on Bev:

I'm not sure if Fansided is a legitimate source, but they cited Yahoo sports stating that the MRI revealed no further damage to Beverly's knee and that he's been cleared for game 2.

Thank. God.

Also, Jordan Hamilton is supposedly a good defender, and played some good minutes when he was initially traded to Houston. I want to see him subbed in for James Harden, not Frankie Garcia.

And I better damn well not see Omri Casspi any time soon.

Lin and Garcia were the only Rockets with a positive +/-, the stat is meaningless.

Says stats guy. Right. It's not always an accurate indication of how an individual performed, but I'd say it is, more often than not.

Negatively referring to someone as a "stat guy" is always funny, seeing how its usually from people who are the "eye test guy" who have preconceived notions and biases clouding judgement. Stats are impartial, people are not.

+/- is a stat, yes, but not a good one. Has major flaws.

Stats can lie though. For instance, Jabari Parker had the best D Rating for Duke this year, which would imply he was our best defender. As it turns out, he was far and away the worst defender on the roster.

Not saying I'm anti-stats, but you can't just use stats to tell a story. Has to be a combination of that and the eye-test.

Never said stats tell it all. I'll look at stats and see if they make sense and why they look that way when I watch a game.

Saying something like "his impact can't be measured" is basically like saying "I think so and so is better than most think, but have absolutely no backing to this claim other than my favoritism towards role players and a specific team."

Point is people who make conclusions solely based on stats are even worse than people who based them solely on the eye-test. That's why I say you have to know basketball to actually form a credible opinion on basketball.

Any argument is flawed in any debate if you only take one viewpoint and ignore everything else and pretend it doesn't exist, but some things weigh heavier than others.

So how about we all try to strike a balance? :p

For instance, certain role plays ala Beverly are players that you need to watch night in and night out to see their impact via the eye test. The only real statsheet #s that will indicate how important he is to Houston are things like steals, offensive rebounds, etc. There's no hustle stat. There's no playing incredibly pesky defense stat.
