Because he plays no defense, flops like Vlade Divac, wastes possessions on bad shots, and shows no intentions of becoming a better player. The defense doesn't get better. The shot selection doesn't get better. the iso work at the end of games doesn't get better.

When he's on, he's Carmelo--carries the team offensive but still hurts them defensively, and therefore they never meet their potential as a unit. When he's off, he's Rudy Gay--a cancer on the court who drags everyone around him down.

He better get his shit together. This team is better than Portland. I don't think even the people rooting against Houston would disagree. Portland won because Aldridge went off and probably just had the greatest playoff game of his career.
All of this is 100% truth, and I've been saying it for years.

I may argue that Melo is better than Harden. At least unlike Harden, Melo isn't a complete liability defensively. He has moments when he's an alright defender. Harden is consistently the worst defender on the floor.

Beverly having an MRI this morning.

If Pat's done, Houston is done. :(

Other than the fact that he got torched by Lillard and provided next to nothing on offense.

You're not going to stop Lillard with Beverley. The better option is to make him work by putting a vastly superior offensive player out there (Lin), and make Lillard work defensively. With Beverley out there he doesn't even have to exert energy on defense.

Is the fact that Houston's season rides on a PG who is terrible on offense sad?

Well they need him to take out the opposing team's best players.

It would be sad if it was reality, but it is not.

Pretty sure Pat held Lillard down for most of the night until late in the fourth when he picked up his 5th and Lin came in. Lillard went off late. It wasn't a opening tip through OT kind of thing.

You people arguing that Houston has a better chance of beating Portland with Jeremy Lin out there are hilarious.

Here's why Houston needs Pat Beverly:

Without him, Houston's starting backcourt of leaking sieves (Harden and Lin) do next to nothing to stop penetration and leave Houston's centers on an island trying to make one ridiculous block after another.

The Rockets can't win this series with Jeremy Lin as the #1 PG. I watch this team year round. I know this team. Beverly is significantly better than Lin, as an overall player. Lin isn't even consistent, offensively, so throw that argument out right the fuck now.

He is right though. Jeremy Lin is trash.

Meant to post this last night and a bunch of other times but Chandler Parsons' shot mechanics are awful.

Well as I said, I'd rather have Lin out there who will at least make Lillard work on both sides of the ball, instead of Beverley, who is not going to slow him down at all, and pretty much allows Lillard to take a breather on defense.

Lillard is going to get his, Aldridge is going to get his. This much you're not stopping.

Maybe in a normal situation but with James Harden also out there on defense, BWare has a point. The Rockets have played a lot better with Beverly and that's not a coincidence. I think the fact that they have to rely on him so much for a spark proves they aren't an elite team but it's hard to argue he doesn't make a difference.

tbh while cap reasons won't really allow it to happen, Avery Bradley would be a great PG for the Rockets

Yeah, I don't really understand his shot. It's like he jumps and his feet go so far forward he shoots at a damn fade away angle. It makes no sense. The form isn't all that bad but the ball is on a line and it leaves no room for error. If it's at all off, it misses. I don't think I've ever seen Parsons get a friendly bounce in.

This is exactly my point. The primary issue is James Harden, no matter which PG is on the court.

I want the Houston organization to offer Harden an ultimatum once they lose this series (assuming Bev is out, extended). Either improve defensive technique and up the effort (two things he could very easily do) or he could find himself a very quick ticket out of town.

As long as he hinders this team as much as he does, Houston will lucky to get out of a second round series.

Harden could very easily get leaner and up his stamina a bit. He's not fat, by any means, but he ain't all muscle, either.
