He'll be a Piston sadly lol
Heh, I did read we might be interested in him.
I wouldn't mind him as a big off the bench.

Meh, solid defensive big. I'd take him if he comes real cheap.

Idk bosox, I just don't think you're being very practical. Realistically speaking, I probably watched the Celtics six times this season. But because I didn't watch them live doesn't mean I didn't watch them. There are ways that I can watch any game I want to watch. I can watch any possession I want, any shot I want, I can exclusively watch PnR possessions, iso possessions, transition, etc.

With that said, I just don't see much truth behind your post. I've always stressed that too many people live in the past and go solely on reputation. Just because a guy played good one season doesn't mean he'll do it the next as well. First point that stands out to me was "Rondo wins games. Period." I'm not going to say that isn't true, because at his best he does help. But this season? That's just not the case. With Rajon Rondo missing games this past season Boston went 19-33, a win percentage of 36.5%. Wih Rondo in the lineup this season, they went 6-24, a win percentage of 20%. So a positive increase of 16.5% with Rondo off the court. Has Rondo won games in the past? Sure. Did he do it this season? I'm unsure how you can look at that and say he helped the team this season. With that said, how can you say he's a top 5 PG? Just doesn't add up.

Next thing is the very good defensive PG statement. I've always said aside from a few seasons, Rondo has been a overrated defender. Now that may be debatable, but this season? It isn't debatable. Boston gave up 6.3 more points per 48 minutes with him on the court vs off. Teams scored 1.07 points per possession with him off the court and 1.12 with him on the court. Teams shot 45.3% from the field with him off the court and 49.9% with him on the court. In just speaking about his individual defense, he gave up 48% shooting to his man. 47% in the PnR, 44% on spot ups, 67% with his man coming off screens, etc. Watching the tape he just didn't have the same lateral movement, he struggled to get around screens, and just struggled to stay in front of his man in general. I watched possessions from the 4/4 game where Michael Carter-Williams went for 24 and 6 on 64% shooting in 34 minutes, the 4/9 game where Jeff Teague went for 19 and 8 on 50% shooting in 32 minutes, and the 4/16 game where John Wall went for 15 and 9 on 47% shooting in 28 minutes. Those 3 PG's only had 5 turnovers in those games combined as well.

In terms of Rondos passing, I wanted to see just what kind of impact his assists actually made. The team shot 2% better from the field with him off the court. They scored more points per possession with him off the court as well. For someone who's a premier passing PG, that's just weird to me. Then the turnovers. 3.3 turnovers per game. 20.7 turnover rate. Incredibly high turnover rate. 3.6 turnovers per game following the All-Star break. I know it's always been in question just how much of an impact he makes with his passing, I've heard you argue this before, and I just find it super weird that a team actually gets worse when a premier passer is on the court. Again, doesn't add up.

And lastly, the shooting. He shot 37.6% on pull ups this season. Solid number. He shot 40% on long twos, which is actually a step down from what he's shot over the last two years. Two years ago he shot 51% on long twos. But here is my opinion on that, and I've made this argument in the past, that when a guy works on something like his jumper they tend to start taking more of those shots. Rondos best career years came early in his career when he was shooting around 50% from the field and getting to the rim more. His offensive rating has taken a hit to, as during those years I just mentioned he was around 111 in offensive rating. Since he started to rely on that jumper his ortg has dropped down to around 101 in the past three years. So yes, maybe he has improved those jump shots, but in the end those are still the most inefficient shots a player can take and his offensive production scoring wise has taken a hit because of it. Main reason I don't want Reke to work too much on his jumper, needs to work on what he's good at and things that go with it. It's not like he closed the season out super strong either, 39% post All-Star break from the field. Averaged 11.7 points, 11.4 assists, 3.8 turnovers, on 40% shooting with bad defense over his last 15.

I'm sorry I just don't know how you objectively say he's a top 5 PG after the season he just had and it's really unfortunate he was voted where he was. Going to knock down a few better PG's down the list and probably one or two outside the top 10.

just skimmed what you posted, because you have no idea what the word succinct means clearly

you can't judge one player simply by looking at stats in a 5v5 game. Rajon Rondo specifically relies on his teammates a lot in his play style.

His role in the defense is not to be the lockdown guard. That's Avery's job. Instead, he gambles more for steals and tries for turnovers. In the games where Rondo played without Avery, his steals went down, but his overall defense was better. He was asked to gamble more often due to Avery's skill, but when needed to, he showed that he is still a very good defensive PG.

Yes the Celtics win% was lower with Rondo that without. That has a lot to do with Jeff Green's shooting slump, or Jared Sullinger being rested by either DNPs or 20min nights, when offensively he was our second or best threat. Again, I do not believe you watched 6 Celtics games last year, but even if you did, you are evaluating a player off 20% of his games played, at most. If you actually watched Rondo all year, then you would have known his passing vision is what makes him elite. Judging a player on the shot percentages of what Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, and Jerryd Bayless combined to do, is idiotic

Something for some of us to get really excited about, one year from tomorrow the Pistons and Pelicans will be eligible to agree to 5 year extensions with Andre Drummond and Anthony Davis.
