The Shaq Sequence
2002 - Los Angeles Lakers win title with Shaquille O'Neal
2006 - Miami Heat win title with Shaquille O'Neal

2 Years Later
2004 - Shaquille O'Neal leaves the Lakers, Lakers become lottery team
2008 - Shaquille O'Neal leaves the Heat, Miami become lottery team

A Few Years Later

2006, 2007 - After missing the playoffs, the Lakers have back to back 1st round exits. Their first playoff bout ends in 7, their second in 5. During this time, the team is essentially Kobe Bryant (A top-5 player in the league) and garbage.
2009, 2010 - After missing the playoffs, the Heat have back to back 1st round exits. Their first playoff bout ends in 7, their second in 5. During this time, the team is essentially Dwayne Wade (A top-5 player in the league) and garbage.

The Next Year
2008 - The Lakers make a huge acquisition, and become one of the best teams in the league.
2011 - The Heat make make a huge acquisition, and become one of the best teams in the league.

2008 - The Lakers make it all the way to the Finals, without much competition, only to lose in 6 to a defensive minded team full of hungry veterans. Their star player recieves a ton of hate for his poor performance.
2011 - The Heat make it all the way to the Finals, without much competition, only to lose in 6 to a defensive minded team full of hungry veterans. Their star player recieves a ton of hate for his poor performance.

The Following Year
2009 - The Lakers make it back to the Finals, and get matched up against an unexperienced team featuring one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.
2012 - The Heat make it back to the Finals, and get matched up against an unexperienced team featuring one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.

2009 - The Lakers win in 5, proving all the doubters wrong.
2012 - The Heat win in 5, proving all the doubters wrong.
In 2010, the Lakers won the Finals in 7 games

The only thing I got from that was the word "unexperienced" and how much that bothers me.

Didn't you you compiled this. You should call out the asshole on reddit, he's shamelessly taking all the credit in the comments.

So if the parallels continue that means that the Pacers are gonna knock out the Heat and go on to win the 'ship next year?

Pacers aren't doing shit as long as there's a healthy Bulls team.

...so undoubtedly Rose or Noah or someone gets hurt next year because Shaq swatted a mosquito in 2003, or whatever this sequence is trying to tell me.

I have absolutely no idea how you came up with that based upon what happened with the Lakers

I'm only joking with these posts, BTW.  This is pretty impressive stuff, though I don't buy it myself.  Just a pretty remarkable coincidence.

They got knocked out by the Mavs who went on to win the championship...

How many people were doubting the Lakers in 09 though?  They won like 65 games that year.

They did, but the Mavs were insignificant in the year before

If the gods of the NBA want to have next year follow the Lakers past, the Pacers have as good of a shot of doing that as the Bulls, Nets, and Knicks

Cause they got knocked out by the Mavs, a championship less team, much like Pacers. Both have a conference title as well.

edit: I'm so slow on my phone.

That was the year the Bulls almost took them out in the first round.
