Browns President Mike Holmgren said he made “every bit the offer” as the Washington Redskins to move up to No. 2 in the draft to take Robert Griffin III, but believes the Browns had no chance to trade with the St. Louis Rams.

“Honestly, when it didn’t happen I think there are reasons that I can’t go into right now, but there is a very close relationship between the people getting the deal done and the people who offered. And I’m not sure anything we offered would have been good enough. We were very, very aggressive and it didn’t work,” Holmgren said.

Florio is reporting that the Browns have re-signed cornerback Dimitri Patterson to a three-year, $16 million contract.

The deal guarantees Patterson $6 million.

Patterson, 29 in June, operated as the Browns’ nickel corner last season, covering the slot on passing downs. Joe Haden and Sheldon Brown were the outside cornerbacks, though Brown may move to safety this year depending on the team’s acquisitions in the draft and rest of free agency.

Patterson finished last season with 28 tackles and 12 pass breakups. He had four interceptions as a nine-game starter in Philadelphia the year before.

Dmitri Patterson is a nickel corner... they could still take Claiborne.

Why would you pay over $5M annual for a nickel CB? For a team with a lot of holes to fill

They are clearly promoting him to CB #2

Jaguars GM Gene Smith is open to offers for the No. 7 overall pick.
"I would clearly entertain moving back," Smith said. "I know there's a lot of interest in [Ryan] Tannehill." Depending on the looming Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn signings, the Jaguars could find two of the Dolphins, Chiefs, and Seahawks angling for Tannehill.

Laurent Robinson
Mike Thomas in the slot
Jarett Dillard the 4th.

If Cleveland trades back.. it'll be for Tannehill. Gene Smith said he doesn't wanna trade back unless its for Tannehill.. sooo I doubt we trade back if the Browns trade back.

The Dolphins gave Richard Marshall the exact same contract, and he's a nickel corner. Cornerbacks are getting paid in this market. With the passing game evolving, you see a lot of 3 wide sets, so nickel cornerbacks are more valuable than ever.

With the rookie pay scale in place, and a second first round pick, I could still easily see the Browns taking Claiborne.

Not saying it's going to happen, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

I can't see the Browns moving down again. Teams like the Pats can get away with moving down every year, teams like the Browns can't... You can't give up the #6 and #4 picks back to back idc if the value is there or not.

Which team in the NFL do you think would be the most interested in trading a 1st rounder/ future 1st for Wes Welker?

Tracy Porter, Aaron Ross and Kendall Langford all staying the night in Cincinnati, we'll see if they can get something done tomorrow. Michael Bush visits on Monday.
