Random question .. Why did the Lakers give up on Caron Butler so quick? He was a major part of the Shaq deal and they traded him for Kwame and Laron Motherfucking Profit after one year. Entered his prime with Washington.

Exactly. That team has no where to go but down. They won't get better.

I think they peaked early in the season and now they're setting up for a first or second round exit. I just think most people think it's a foregone conclusion that Chris Paul is back, but he's a guy who has always talked about winning as the number one priority and now he's seeing his friends starting to win rings, I just don't know how he goes back for 4 or 5 years with a team that is going backwards and not forwards. Seriously, if they go one and done, how does he go back?

I think in a lot of ways they made the mistake the Hornets did. They went out and surrounded Paul with a bunch of veterans that are signed to stupid contracts, and these are veterans that will continue to slip and get worse, not better. I mean they have Blake Griffin, who's basketball IQ has just disappeared. In college and his first year or so in the NBA he didn't try and do anything he couldn't, he played around the basket, he didn't take dumb shots, but now he thinks he's Kevin Garnett or David West taking 18 foot jumpshots that he can't make. The entire defense just backs off of him and begs him to take it. They gave DeAndre Jordan a deal that doesn't even begin to match his production to the team. Then you have the rest of their roster, Crawford, Billups, Barnes, Green, Turiaf, Odom, Hollins, Grant Hill. I mean who on that list isn't going to fall off a cliff soon? Some of them already have.

The only player they have on that roster that I haven't mentioned that's going to get better is Eric Bledsoe, and he's stuck behind Chris Paul. And now it seems they're starting to give his minutes to the vets as the playoffs creep closer.

their main lineup in 05-06 was Smush-Kobe-Lamar, and then a rotation of Mihm/Cook/Kwame at PF/C.

Odom played 1123 minutes at SF, 1050 at PF. They wanted him mostly at SF, which would mean Caron would play off the bench. So they traded him.

That's my guess

They never had a problem letting Odom come off the bench the following years though.

What I've read now is that he was expiring and they didn't want too much money tied up in their main guys.

that and the position issue. lamar was such a bad starter imo, never liked him starting. he was so much better off the bench because hed play every position, and play them well.

laker fans going to kill them

tough spot. have an easy target and put it up, or dont and continue being the only team not having an identity in the rafters (sparks, lakers, kings)
and a lot of teams do it too. it's a big deal to these teams that arent as lucky as the lakers and celtics
