Hey Lions fans, Turk McBride will probably be the starting DE across from Will Smith for part of the season if not the whole season.

Opinions?
He was an impressive player whenever he got the chance to play. I'm interested to see how he does as a full-time starter.
I don't think he'll be amazing or anything like that, but I think he will be a real solid player for you guys.

I was gonna comment to BC on how his whole RB statement was BS

and then I saw the Bengals were last in RY/C last year and the Jets were top 10
....so yeah.

I took the Bengals are a shitty team a bit too personal, so just let it go. I'm trying to find ways to be positive other than looking at all the negative.
Not to be a dick, but I think the Bengals are probably the worst team in the league.

I think it will be a battle between them and the Panthers. Seahawks won't be very good either. But like I said, if we are we are, and then we'll have Luck. Either way I'm not going to complain because I really like Luck, but I get the feeling we'll be better than what most think and we won't have a chance at Luck, or maybe I found my homer glasses again. I look at it in two ways... If we are terrible, Marvin Lewis will most likely be gone and we'll have Luck, if were are somewhat decent, we can worry about other positions. Either way, it doesn't bother me that much, I just don't think we'll be that bad, but maybe I just don't want to believe it. People can say this and that, we'll just see what happens when the season gets underway.

When you have predictable play calling, it's easy to stop the run. Especially when we did the same thing over and over and over. First down - Run - Second down - Run - Third down - Pass = Punt. Not good when I knew what play was going to be called from watching it on the TV, especially when the opposing teams study you all week. All teams did was stack the box and we never adjusted to it.

Washington wont be the worst team in the league I can tell you that right now lol. Also jackson imo wont be the starter for the Seahawks for long if even the beginning of the season. Whitehurst or whatever his name has been playing a shit ton better than him

Agreed. Washington isn't going to be that bad, they won't win the division of course but they won't be horrible by any means.

I think there's a difference between a shitty team and a rebuilding team. The record will probably make it look like we are a shitty team because of all the young players, but if they get better, we could have a bright future on our hands. The Bengals aren't looking at THIS year, they are looking towards the future now. I figured you could lend out some homer goggles, so I thought I'd use them.

You are seriously saying Carson Palmer had a good season in 2009? The team ran the ball a TON, we were a running football team. He barely had a 60% completion %, Barely had 3,000 yards passing, and only had a QB rating of 83.6. For what we asked him to do, being a franchise QB getting paid all the millions of dollars, he was making it by handing the ball off. Of course the numbers don't look horrible, we didn't ask him to do much, because they didn't have the confidence in him to throw the ball. So, again, that's where the stat line comes into play again that you are looking at, Palmer did NOT have a good 2009 season, he was average, at best. As far as Andy Dalton, if he can just keep his mistakes limited, especially INT's, I think the offense will actually be better of, I can't tell you how many pick 6's we gave opposing teams. Now, I'm not going to sit here and bash Palmer, because I like him, but he wasn't helping us win games, we won 4 games with him last year. I was actually one always trying ways to stick up for him and believe in him, when everyone else wanted him gone. Knowing a lot about the Bengals doesn't count for reading up all of the stats, they can be misleading.

As far as being in 8 of them 12 games against those GOOD teams, that only makes me feel even better, to be able to be competitive against teams like that. If you ever want to get anywhere, those are teams you will have to contend with, so thanks for bringing that up. While we lost 99% of them, had one bounce gone our way, we COULD be looking at things differently right now, that's why it's so easy to bash the team off of last years record. I'm not one to go back and wonder what could have been, so we'll just leave it at that. I'm just glad you looked up all of the stats, especially to find the being in 8 of the 12 games that we lost, we all know you didn't know that without finding the stats.

A lackluster roster? Our Offensive line isn't horrible, it's average with some strong players like Andrew Whitworth & Bobbie Williams. We are finally seeing what Andre Smith can do, as long as he can stay healthy. Clint Boling should eventually be the LG and Kyle Cook is a solid Center.

QB - Andy Dalton is a question mark, but I like what he did at TCU and like his leadership, something Carson never had. Hopefully he can transition into a good NFL QB, we don't know until he gets a chance, so say what you want.

RB - Cedric Benson & Bernard Scott are talented running backs that can get the job done, Benson has proved it over the last few years, if it wasn't for him, we might have already joined the club with the Lions at 0-16.

FB - Pressley, he's not great or proven yet, but I really like his blocking, from what I've seen.

WR - A.J. Green, Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Andre Caldwell, Ryan Whalen is a nice WR core, young & unproven but a ton of upside. I really like our current WR core.

TE - Jermaine Gresham & Chase Coffman are good TE's, especially Gresham. I expect a big season from him in the West Coast Offense. Coffman hasn't really had much of a chance.

DL - Carlos Dunlap, Domata Peko, Geno Atkins, Michael Johnson are solid players, I can't complain much about these guys. Only one I'm not big on that I didn't mention was Robert Geathers.

LB - Rey Maualuga, Keith Rivers, Manny Lawson, Bradon Johnson are all solid players, can't complain about the LB core.

CB - Leon Hall, Nate Clements, Kelly Jennings, Morgan Trent, Adam Jones are solid players, can't really complain about the CB's, many say losing Joseph was a huge deal, it really isn't. The guy could never stay healthy, we generally had backups in there playing for him, I wouldn't have locked him into a large contract either, no matter how stupid it might seem, I like Clements physicality & durability, something Joseph never had. Only thing about Clements that worries me is his coverage, but he should do fine, he's looked good in preseason so far.

S - Reggie Nelson, Chris Crocker, Taylor Mays, Gibril Wilson, Robert Sands, Jeromy Miles are solid players, only one I'm not big on is Chris Crocker. Nelson had his issues in Jacksonville, as we all know but has fit in really well with the Bengals so far and I've liked that addition. Also like the Taylor Mays addition, if Zimmer can get his technique right, it will be a steal for us. He reminds me of a younger Roy Williams, he will lay you out but struggles in coverage, hopefully we can work that out.

K - Mike Nugent - Good kicker if he can stay healthy, he doesn't worry me.

P - Kevin Huber - He's been nailing punts, 77 yards against the Jets, don't need any upgrade here.

So, through all of this, there's been a few positions that could be improved, but lackluster is laughable, the talent is there.

As far as the Jets, the offense is a joke and the defense has clearly carried the team the past few years, so if the defense declines like you've said it's going to, I'd be surprised if the Jets make the playoffs, they surely aren't winning the division.

OK, I'm going to take my BC homer glasses off, for now.

ALSO

Again, shows how much you know about the Bengals. The ENTIRE secondary was backups on that 98 yard scoring drive the Jets had before the half. Leon Hall wasn't in there, Nate Clements wasn't in there, Chris Crocker wasn't in there, Reggie Nelson wasn't in there and the only starters that were in there during that was on the defensive line, they were shifting guys in and out. So, out of those 173 yards you talked about, 98 of them came against bums. 75 yards against the first team defense?? Impressive!

Lets pad some more stats why don't we!
There is no difference between a shitty team and a rebuilding team, teams rebuild because they're shitty. If they didn't suck, there's no point in rebuilding. A 4-win team sucks, there's no questions about it. Potential to be good in the future doesn't mean you don't suck now.

Please tell me where I said Carson had a good season in 2009. I said that he had a fairly decent season, not once did I ever use the word good when describing what Carson did. You won 4 games with Carson last year and you DOWNGRADED at the QB position. That just doesn't bode well for a team.

Andy Dalton isn't going to do anything but hurt you.

Cedric Benson has had ONE good season, just ONE. Other than that he's never done shit in the NFL. Scott has 135 carries in his career, it's not a given that he's going to perform.

Jordan Shipley and AJ Green are likely going to be the only wideouts to have an impact, and with Green it's not a given considering how poorly he's played this pre-season.

Gresham is good, Coffman is meh.

Peko and Dunlap are solid, Atkins and Johnson are below average.

Mauluaga and Lawson are alright, Rivers is your 4th string weakside LB.

Leon Hall is good. Nate Clements is meh, everybody else is bad.

Your safeties are bad.

You've still yet to provide any reasons as to why the Jets offense is a joke other than that Mark Sanchez can't get the ball to our wideouts. If Mark can't get the ball to our receivers, a worse QB in Andy Dalton isn't going to be able to get to the ball to his even worse receiving corps.

Again, goes to show how much you know about the Bengals. Keith Rivers is a STARTING LB, not a 4th string, I mean, really? You looking at the depth charts can even be a bit misleading. He's injured and won't be back until mid-season. You are just proving the point that you know nothing about the team, which I've known from the very beginning. "They suck", that's about all you know about them. You must listen to ESPN & NFL Network too much. I just think it's funny how you "know so much about the Bengals" and here you are claiming Keith Rivers as a fourth string LB, LOL.

You are also forgetting Jerome Simpson, he might turn out to be the best WR on the team this year. He's finally getting his chance this year.

As far as the Jets offense, they were ranked 21st overall last year. 12th in rushing, 23rd in passing. 31st the year before in passing offense. Thought I'd get out the stats, too.

ESPN doesn't have injuries listed for Keith Rivers and has him 4th on the DC.

Jerome Simpson = nothing

Lol @ you looking at the Jets page on NFL.com and thinking that those rankings are from last season. Those are pre-season bro.

My bad, Jets were 22nd in passing offense last year, not 23rd.

Keith Rivers is listed on the depth chart as fourth because of his injury....

And they were 4th in rushing.

ESPN doesn't have an injury on his player page.

Helu, Hightower, Moss, Hall, Fletcher, Orakpo, Kerrigan, Atogwe and McIntosh all not in pads.

Guess I'll just watch the Wisconsin game instead.

Hopefully Carlton Mitchell plays tonight.. He's got potential to be a starter for us at wide out but hes been dealing with injuries all off-season.
