He hit .293 last year with the highest BABIP in the history of ever. He came back down to earth this season and is a lot closer to what he did this year than what he did his rookie season.
And you base that assessment of what?
Sophomore slumps are quite common in the MLB.

Off the fact that he's had strikeout problems his entire career (including the minors) and he's still yet to fix it. He doesn't walk and he doesn't hit homeruns, his defense is the only thing that makes him worth keeping around.

Think BJ Upton with less power and a better glove.

He also reached the .300 in the minors. He's not a conventional leadoff hitter, and will always be high in strikeouts.
But that doesn't mean he can't get his average higher than it was this season.
