I think you guys are really underestimating Gerald Laird...

But really I would love to see Pena back, but I know that Dombrowski would probably sign a guy like Russell Branyan.

I'd be happy with either Pena or Vlad. He needs to get something done lol.

I'd be fine with Pena but I haven't heard where the Tigers are pursuing anybody at the moment, I haven't seen anything at least. I guess they are just waiting on what they hear when Martinez sees the specialist or whatever.

Your first thought might have been Prince Fielder, but it's not going to happen. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that Fielder has said repeatedly that he won't be a designated hitter. With Miguel Cabrera locked in long-term as Detroit's first baseman, I think we can cross this one off the list.

On the other hand, Cuban center fielder Yoenis Cespedes could be a real possibility for the Tigers, according to Morosi. The move would allow Detroit to get more athletic in the outfield by playing Cespedes in a corner, with Delmon Young moving to the DH spot.

Two other possibilities outside of Cespedes could be free agents Johnny Damon and Carlos Pena, as Jim Bowden of ESPN notes. Signing either one would give Detroit a veteran bat to insert into the lineup, but they're both pretty limited defensively. Pena would certainly provide a bit more pop.

I really want Yoenis, but he wouldn't really help us this year IMO.

As is, I see no way we compete for the World Series. I don't quite know why Dumbrowski doesn't see this.

There's no way the Tigers will compete if they don't add a decent player, Martinez was a huge part of the teams success, it's going to hurt. The line-up as of right now without Martinez just will not cut it.

some kid on facebook was talking about how we're WS bound and we dont need much besides a 3B. i went into our team saying how stupid dumbrowski is and he said dude was a genius and whatnot.. i stuck him with the "we werent eve projected to win our division last season so why would we be even better this season".. needless to say dude didnt say shit back after i got a couple likes lol.

we need to make a move though. dumbroski is so blind it kills me.

The Tigers only competition in the division is the Indians, and we backed into 80 wins last year.. Losing Victor is big but the Tigers will win the division convincingly unless the Indians make a move offensively.

We will not be nearly as good as we were last year without Martinez. If we stand pat, I think the Indians could win the division.

Huge blow offensively, he ALWAYS came up big when you needed it most. I loved the addition, I knew he would be great for the Tigers, it sucks. Hope they will be able to overcome it.

If Choo, Sizemore and Hafner stay healthy and contribute like they can, I'd say they could win the division, but the likelihood of that is not good.

I'm a little more confident in Choo to bounce back but Sizemore and Hafner are made of glass. I'm expecting a strong, healthy year from Ubaldo, though and that could be a difference maker.

I always wanted Pena back when we lost him, and now we have that chance again.

Main thing is that as said, This hurts the Tigers playoff run, not the chances of winning the division. Still the best team in the division, and the Indians are the only ones that i'm worried about.

Watch out the Royals, they're bound to have an 08 Rays type jump any season now.

Pitching is still very mediocre. They've been a good offensive team the last few years.

If the Indians would just pick up a solid first baseman, they could be the ones making that jump, but I'm not getting my hopes up for that happening.
