Last night Giants quietly signed DT Rocky Bernard to terms. Details were uncertain but as of this morning they are believed to be in the area of 4 years for approximately $16M.

This signing most likely means that the G-Men will end pursuit of Chris Canty, whose asking price was apparently far too high.

Canty and his agent left NY this morning rather upset with the way discussions went, considering Canty was excited at the though of playing in NY, where he grew up in the Bronx... -- GMF - Information from the NY Post and New York Times, as well as www.nj.com

According to the Denver Post, Rb. JJ Arrington is reportedly not yet a Bronco. Despite the two sides reaching terms on Friday, after going through the contract agent J.R. Rickert noticed some issues, and thus killed the contract.

This may be a good thing for the Broncos if they truly are serious about spending money to bring in one, if not both Free Agents LB Ray Lewis, as well as leaving room for RB Derrick Ward who has already met the team. The Broncos on Friday ended talks with no contract, stating he was a bit out of their price range. However, after failed negotiations with Cincinnati and Philadelphia on Saturday, and the fall-through of Arrington's deal, Ward may be back in their range.

Ward played well as back-up to Brandon Jacobs last season racking up 1000 yards, as well as being a big receiver out of the backfield. Ward has appaently been seeking a Michael Turner-like deal, such as 6 years for 34M.

Ward is considered by many to be the No. 1 RB on the market.

Giants also snagged FA DE Chris Canty to a 6 year deal worth 42M.
The New York Giants continue making bold moves to shore up their defense.

One day after signing DT Rocky Bernard and LB Michael Boley, the Giants signed free-agent DE Chris Canty to a six-year, $42 million contract that includes $17.25 million in guaranteed money. Now Dallas’ loss is New York’s gain.

Dallas could not afford to keep Canty, and the Green Bay Packers were trying to arrange for him to visit the team. But Sunday afternoon, Canty took the Giants’ offer.

The Giants have gotten defensive. Again.

I pray we re-sign Buchanan, we got Clayton, which isn't a huge accomplishment; he's like another Cadillac Williams.

** New England re-sign OL Russ Hochenstein.

*** F'ing Denver signs LB Andra Davis.

**** The Patriots have restructured the contract of Randy Moss in an effort to clear some cap space. The Patriots transferred $1.5 million that Moss was slated to earn in 2009 and made it a bonus payment, saving the team about $750,000 against the cap.

The Cincinnati Bengals have fended off an attempt by the Houston Texans to sign running back Cedric Benson by reaching a two-year deal.

NFL.com Video

Bengals running back Cedric Benson runs all over the Browns for 171 yards.

According to a source, the two-year contract is worth $7 million. Benson is expected to be the Bengals' starting running back this season.

After being cut by the Bears last summer and dealing with legal troubles in Texas, Benson signed with the Bengals and resurrected his career. He rushed for 747 yards on 214 carries and scored two touchdowns.

"Cedric was recognized as an elite talent coming out of college," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday. "His years in Chicago weren't what he hoped for, but he was able to give us a lift on the field and be a great presence in the locker room. He earned everyone's respect, and we're excited to let him continue to grow in our system."

Benson, 26, spent three seasons with the Bears before being released.
I believe Houston offered him same contract, but not a starting position..

Bucs ink kicker Nugent to deal

Here's an interesting move by the Bucs.

The team just announced the signing of former Jets K Mike Nugent, a second-round pick in 2005. He'll join Matt Bryant, who is coming off a solid season interrupted by the death of his infant son.

Sources: Broncos add another RB -- 10:59 a.m.

One day after a previously reported deal between Cardinals free agent J.J. Arrington fell apart with the Denver Broncos, the team has acted quickly to fill the void.

Veteran running back LaMont Jordan has verbally agreed on a two-year deal with the Broncos, according to NFL sources who spoke to KDVR (Denver) FOX 31's Josina Anderson Wednesday morning.

The sources told Anderson that the deal had not been signed yet, but an agreement had been reached for two years and $2.5 million.

Im happy with the moves we've made up to this point.

Boley takes out LB core from mediocre to very dangerous (Pierce, Boley, Kiawanuka)

We still need to better our secondary and we should re-sign Webster to start that off. We also need to upgrade at WR, and Ive read rumors about a Braylon Edwards for Kiawanuka deal, and I would definently like that move, as long as Edwards proves he can hold on to the ball...

Lions signed DT Grady Jackson to a three-year, $8 million contract.

Jackson started 15 games for Atlanta last season and is big (6'2/345). The Falcons ranked 25th against the run, however, and yielded nearly five yards per carry against, the 28th worst mark in the league. Jackson, 36, adds next to nothing as a pass rusher and is unlikely to make a difference in Detroit.

Your crazy dez. Just after pointing out that the addition of Boley upgrades your LB corps...your up for dealing Kiawanuka?

There's no chance in hell I would trade Kiawanuka for Braylon Edwards. Edwards has the ability to be a solid WR in this league but what has he done? He's been hurt & dropped a lot of passes.

Stick with Plax, let him work out his legal issues, and go after a solid vet to take the place of Toomer. Maybe Bobby Engram or Shaun McDonald.

Kiawanuka excelled this past season at DE, but the season before when he was at LB he wasnt contributing nearly as much.

Now if we are able to bring Plax back, then there would be a reason to make the deal, but I doubt Plax returns. Thats why Id be up for the trade.
