Chien Ming-Wang is officially a free agent. Ever since that incident in Houston in 08, he hasn't been the same. Shame for a former ace to not get an offer, but as long as Hughes and Joba are ready next season than we'll be set.

It appears the Toronto Blue Jays have decided to Buck the trend at catcher for next season.

On the same day the Jays announced the re-signing of Chavez to a minor-league contract, ESPN is reporting the team has agreed to terms with free agent catcher John Buck to a 1-year, $2 million contract. The deal is conditional on Buck passing a physical.

Buck was not offered a contract by the Kansas City Royals, who signed Jason Kendall to a two-year, $6 million deal on Friday.

Buck has spent his entire career with the Royals, batting .235 with 70 homers and 259 RBIs over six seasons. Last year, Buck hit eight home runs with 36 RBIs in 59 games.
There goes the chance of trading for Doumit <_<.

TORONTO -- Jose Bautista will be back for another season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto signed the infielder-outfielder to a US$2.4-million, one-year deal Sunday. Bautista, 29, hit 13 home runs and 40 RBIs for a .235 batting average last season.

The Jays also signed injured right-hander Dustin McGowan to a $500,000, one-year contract, along with outfielder Joey Gathright and catcher Raul Chavez, who were both given minor league contracts.

McGowan missed last season recovering from shoulder and knee surgery.

Gathright split his season with the Chicago Cubs and Boston, playing 37 games and recording a .267 average.

Chavez played 51 games with the Jays last season, driving in two home runs and 15 RBIs for a .258 average.

Buck should be an alright catcher, i'm sure Arencibia or another one of our young catchers will eventually be called up to fill the position.

Red Sox, Lackey agree to 5 yr/$85 mm

Jays, Phillies, and Mariners agree to 3-team BLOCKBUSTER that would send Halladay to the Phillies (possibly Lee to the Mariners, no confirmation)

hot stove is starting to heat up

One rival GM theorizes that if the Red Sox sign free-agent right-hander John Lackey, they then will lock up righty Josh Beckett long- term and trade righty Clay Buchholz in a package for Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

Under that scenario, first baseman Kevin Youkilis would move to third and the Sox would employ a Mike Cameron-Jeremy Hermida type platoon in left.

The Sox's big investments would be Lackey and Beckett; Gonzalez will earn a club-friendly $4.75 million next season, and his deal includes a $5.5 million club option for 2011.

Free agents Adrian Beltre, Matt Holliday and Jason Bay?

All would be shut out in Boston. -- Ken Rosenthal
Rosenthal's a little slow on the uptake, or maybe I can do his job lol:

So, according to Cafardo, the Padres want Buchholz and one of Casey Kelly/Ryan Westmoreland and the Sox don't want to part with that much.

I personally, think Theo should jump on this deal. FAST. I like all three but I would be fine with trading Buchholz and Kelly for Gonzalez. I think they should hold on to Westmoreland though, he's going to mash at Fenway in a couple of years.

If they add Gonzalez, it'd be easier to not overpay for Bay or Holliday and they'd make up for, or try to, Kelly with the draft picks received from the Bay signing. They can sign Mike Cameron to platoon with Hermida in left. If Cameron bounces back, they can let him walk next year and possibly pick up another draft pick.

The Red Sox are <Censored>ing brilliant. Thats EXACTLY what the Mets shouldve done. But we dont have the prospects OR the intelligence to get a Lackey and then get a cornerstone 1B........

its not like Lee sucked for them. he pitched as well as a pitcher can. what more do they expect Halladay to do?

Yeah thats the only thing that gets me. Halladay isn't much of an upgrade over Lee, if he's an upgrade at all

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jack Cust became a free agent Saturday when the Oakland Athletics failed to offer him a 2010 contract.

Cust hit .240 with 25 homers and 70 RBIs last season but struck out 195 times, becoming the first player to lead in the AL in three straight seasons since Minnesota's Bobby Darwin from 1972-74. Cust whiffed 164 times in 2007 and 197 times in 2008.

He had 26 homers in 2007 and 33 the following year, and has topped Oakland for three consecutive seasons in homers, strikeouts and walks (93 last season).

Cust made $2.8 million last season and had been eligible for salary arbitration.

Halladay will have to waive his no-trade clause to complete the trade.
Not official yet :p but Blanton and Happ could be part of the deal.
