Ohtani has not had an at bat in the majors, nor has he thrown a pitch in the majors yet. Lets not put him in Stanton's category just yet. Wait a couple of years and re-visit this topic.
As was said, Ohtani could end up being a flop and the team that signs him could lose a great deal of money.
A comment on the Twins that won the awards -- Buxton deserved the award but Dozier probably did not. Kinsler is a better defender at 2B than Dozier is and deserved the award more.
This is a real shame. No one knows what kind of person he would have become, baseball aside. At only 17, he wasn't even old enough to vote in this country.
Rest in peace, young man. Condolences to family and friends.
Bruce will likely settle for 3 or 4 years. JD Martinez is a better fit in the AL than in the NL, as he is not a really good defender. In the AL, he could get $200K as he could be a 4th OF/DH and get 600 plate appearances annually.

That idea has been floated around for quite a while. It would be broken up geographically with 5 team divisions and inter-divisional play. This would allow the players to stay in the same time-zone more, and decrease the travel.
Not sure he'll go to the Yankees, but I would think he would sign with an AL team to both pitch and hit. I could see him getting 30 starts and 250 ABs as a DH.
Not sure what the posting fee will be. Up until this year, it was $25MM (I believe) but now it has dropped, especially given his age. ...
If MLB really wants to have a true league, they will have the same rules for everyone. The DH allows an aging popular player (like Albert Pujols or Jim Thome) to stay in the game a bit longer. Having the DH in both leagues will allow more of these guys to stay in the game.
Now, if baseball...
I think the biggest reason Girardi didn't go back is because he was going to demand too much money. He was already paid more than the other playoff managers and would have asked for a raise to return. They can get someone that will get along with the players and front office better for less...
One of the worst selections I've ever seen was Rafael Palmiero when he played less than 90 games in the field for the Rangers. He was their primary DH that season but didn't make any errors in his time at 1B.
