The announcement was made yesterday. He concludes a long career, 15 years, with his hometown team. A great story.
Mauer had a very good career derailed by concussions. Had he continued his path before the concussions that forced him to move to 1B, we might be talking about a trip to...
Brad Ausmus will take the job with the Angels, David Bell was named to take the Reds' helm. It appears that Rocco Baldelli will be named to manage the Twins, possibly as soon as today.
The Red Sox won 108 games this season and the Dodgers won 92 games. Both were very good teams, but the Red Sox had a lot more wins. This is the biggest differential in 20 years and the 114-win Yankees swept the 98-win Padres in 1998.
Who you got and how many games?
When a player is suspended, he should have to sit out games as soon as possible, in other words during the season it is handed out. Carry-over suspensions are a bit silly. Also, a person suspended for major infractions -- PEDs, drug/alcohol policy, criminal activity, dosmestic abuse, etal --...
According to MLB.com, a recent MRI showed more damage to his UCL. Team Drs have recommended surgery for him. If he has the surgery, he will likely not return to the field until 2020.
The Twins have moved a couple of players for prospects. Eduardo Escobar went to the D'Backs for 3 kids (2 of which were in the top 30 prospect list from MLB.com) and Ryan Pressly went to the Astros to help shore up their bullpen for the stretch run. The Twins got a couple of decent kids (both...
The Cardinals have underachieved a bit this season and it has cost Mike Matheny his job. There was speculation last night on the broadcast that Yadi Molina may get the nod as a player-manager next season. Not sure he's ready for this sort of gig, but he should be a manager sometime soon.
In my opinion, any team with a player suspended for PEDs should have to play a man short for the duration of the suspension. In other words, play with 24 players on the roster, rather than 25. That will make clubs take PEDs a bit more seriously. Cano was not the only player suspended this...
A flare to right, but it counts just as much as a screaming liner. I'm sure he'll take it.
Congratulations to one of the best hitters in the history of the game.
A 20 year old man was charged with criminal mischief and reckless driving after damaging the field. Minor league groundskeepers are getting together to repair the damage and make some improvements to the field. It will be interesting to see what they do, as I visit the field occasionally...
There is a thought that if a starting pitcher is suspended, he should miss at least 2 starts. The way things are going now, many teams are able to juggle their rotations so that the starter won't miss any actual starts.
Thoughts?
Per MLB Network, the MLB front office has determined that no suspension or fine will be levied against Miguel Sano for an alleged incident. They did an independent investigation and determined that he was not guilty of any wrongdoing.
1/$12MM with incentives that could bring in another $2MM or so. Glad to see this. He reportedly turned down a 2/$20MM deal last week.
I hope to see the team make him a longer-term offer.
