The defense isn't anywhere near "damn close." Hayward was about as close to being a net positive defensively as you could be without actually being there, ranking inside the top half of the leagues SF's, while Melo was in the bottom 37% of all SF's.
Neither guy is a good defender, neither guy...
I brought up those questions because they are simple to ask, like I put in the original post to Rob. Melo is obviously a better scorer and rebounder, though I'd heavily disagree that Melo is a better passer.
I'm not overstating, just making points. Of course no one would say Hayward is a better scorer, but my point is we aren't talking about 28 year old Melo when he led the league in scoring, we are talking about 32 year old Melo who at this point in his career isn't THAT much better at scoring...
He really isn't. You can think of really simply.
Who's the better scorer?
Who's the better passer?
Who's the better defender?
Who's the better rebounder?
Etc. I mean Gordon is more efficient and is a very good scorer, he's a better and more willing passer, he's definitely the better defender...

He's done exactly what you expect a young player to do. Worked hard and improved his game during his rookie and sophomore years, finished his 2nd season strong, and parlayed that into a breakout season in his third year.
