The Portland Trail Blazers and guard C.J. McCollum have reached an agreement on a four-year extension worth $106 million, as first reported Monday by The Vertical and confirmed by ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The deal does not include a player option, according to The Vertical, and will start in the 2017-18 season.

Blazers scouts are pretty solid. Weber State and Lehigh, two studs.

Lol legit had one good year

He's done exactly what you expect a young player to do.  Worked hard and improved his game during his rookie and sophomore years, finished his 2nd season strong, and parlayed that into a breakout season in his third year.

No doubt . I just think thats alot of money for someone whos a scorer but not super efficient and plays below average defense. Dude just got paid more than butler, idk

I wouldn't say he's super efficient, but I think he's a little more efficient than given credit for

This Is just weird to me
Deal doesnt even start til after this next season

What if he declines or gets injured? Hed still be a rfa if he doesnt. He'll bet maxed

Why now? For so far into the future?

It's not like nobody saw either of them coming?

Doesn't this make sense in that he'll be on an extremely reasonable contract after next offseason? I mean, let's be realistic here. This guy is good but not great. Max him now and avoid an even bigger payday if he gets even better.

The salary cap will continue to rise (albeit not as much as previously expected) and the amount he can earn on a max deal will rise. If they think he is worth the max, then it is wise to give it to him now when it will cost them a little bit less.

I like Nolafan33's point on his progression. I think another thing that has to be considered is the market Portland finds themselves in. If McCollum continues to improve, then other teams (Lakers/Knicks/Bulls) in more sexy markets will take notice and come calling. They lost Aldridge maybe because they weren't aggressive enough early enough in the process.

There's some risk in this offer because he doesnt have the track record you would want out of a max player, but Portland needs to take the risk b/c it is likely that he might bolt otherwise. And with the money being thrown around the NBA today, this contract isn't as bad as it may appear.
