This has been a topic around twitter over the last couple weeks. With the Angels pretty much out of it already this season, and their farm system being one of the worst in baseball, should the Angels look to deal Mike Trout?

Trout is only 24 years old, and is signed through 2020, but with the Angels really struggling, and looking pretty weak in terms of prospects, would it be wise to trade Trout?

Any trade would have to be a 3-team trade to get enough top prospects in return. Would be very difficult to find a deal that satisfies them, though I'm sure more than a few teams would be willing to gut their farm system to bring him in.

If they don't trade him they need to start being smart with their Free Agent acquisitions. Stop trying to throw all your money in to one player when you have multiple positions in serious need of an upgrade. Get two starting pitchers who are 3-4 caliber, grab a few bullpen arms, sign some middle of the road hitters. Instead they go all in on 1 or 2 players, and by the time the player chooses someone else 15 other Free Agents are off the board.

It sucks about Heaney though. That was a great trade.

Dodgers make quite a bit of sense, and I think they could have the prospects to pull it off.

But would the Angels trade him across town? I don't know how that works over there, but in NY the Mets and Yankees never trade with each other even if the two teams make a great match.

If they got the right pieces in a deal, I don't think it would matter.

Urias/Seager/Pederson type package?

Well he's arguably a top 3 player in MLB, under team control for 4 or 5 seasons, and is only 24 years old. It would have to be a monster package.

That package might work. Might require a 4th team.

But my point about the city is I always hear people suggest on NY radio that the Mets & Yankees should do a trade where they send one of the Mets arms for one of the Yankees closers - and it's a great fit. Francesa always admits those trades make a ton of sense, but insists the two teams would never talk about it. Same with Chicago - how often do the Cubs and White Sox make a trade, let alone a blockbuster where you're sending one superstar to another team - and think about it, you're sending that superstar to a team in the same local market. That plays a big factor.

I think it'd be smart to trade Trout, there franchise is crippled by him, Pujols, and even Hamilton still. Weaver and Wilson are coming off the books, and they can't afford anymore busts in FA. I think they could get a monster package from someone for him. One like:

Benintendi
Devers
Owens
Kopech
Castillo (contract difference)
Swihart
Ball
Chavis

For Trout and Smith/Street

They could totally rebuild their farm with this one deal, now just a matter if anyone would bite.

Red Sox would never make that deal and they shouldn't.

That's the real problem - would anyone actually want to give up that kind of package.

Arguably a top 3 player? He's the best player in the league.

Nobody in their right mind should do that package, but that's what the Angels should get for someone like Trout.

It'd be almost impossible to get his value back in a trade.

Exactly. He's 24, the best player in the league and is on a steal of a contract. No amount of unproven prospects can top what trade value Trout provides.

He makes 34 million next season, that contract is about to sky rocket...Wouldn't call it a massive steal, just pretty solid as to what Harper is going to make.

Yeah, but who do the Angels have coming up? They really don't even have anyone on the ML roster outside of Simmons, Heaney and Richards (all who are hurt).

They have a couple awful contracts on the books with Pujols and Wilson.

Not saying they should trade trout, but if a team severely overpays, I think it would be stupid of them not to listen. You aren't going to win many games with just one or two good players.

He's accumulated 40 wins over 4 seasons at a young age which is unheard of. If he can come close to putting up those numbers, which isn't to far fetched, his contract will be almost a bargain.

What would be an overpayment for Trout though? He's 24, and there's still time to build around him.
