The Cleveland Cavaliers are positioning themselves to be able to sign a maximum contract player during the offseason of 2014, according to executives and agents around the NBA.

LeBron James is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in that offseason.

People around the NBA believe there is an increasing possibility of James returning to the Cavaliers after the 13-14 season.

James signed with the Miami Heat in the 2010 offseason to improve his odds of winning a title, but the Cavaliers have managed to acquire several promising young players as part of their rebuilding.

There's a lot of factors. I don't think it would happen if Dan Gilbert is still around, that's for sure.

I think it'd be cool to see LBJ go back and redeem himself but I wouldn't expect it to happen either

I wouldn't be so sure of that. I think Gilbert wants to win regardless, and I'm sure most Cleveland fans would welcome him back.

Word, I feel you there. Maybe they have made amends behind the scenes too though, never know. Though not likely.

Gilbert has pride, but he didn't get this far in life by being an idiot. He'd take him back. Kyrie and LeBron would be an insane duo.

And Kyrie is the main reason this could happen. Wade & Bosh will be on the decline, Kyrie will be 22. That's a no brainer personnel wise. Not to mention the various rumors I've seen that he genuinely misses being in North East Ohio around his family.

One more thing. Adrian Wojnarowski wrote an article months ago talking about this, saying LeBron's people have let it be known he is interested in coming back and later it said they haven't heard from Gilbert, and obviously it wouldn't be direct because that's tampering.

The writer who wrote reported this originally is Jason Lloyd, and he's basically the Cavs puppet in the media. He writes what they tell him to write.

Possibly Gilbert's way of telling LeBron he's open to the idea.

Probably looking to far into it.

anyways, in regards to this, this would be unprecedented right? i cant think of a superstar who left, and went back still in his prime to finish business. maybe im forgetting someone really obvious.(not MJ because he never left the Bulls for another NBA team while winning a title)

anyone know? doesnt have to be a megastar, but a really good player at least. more than just a role player

I could totally see this happening because of that. unprecedented.
