Nah, he said it wasn't as good as people thought it was. He's since said it's still better than most.
While Kentucky coach John Calipari has had great success putting players into the NBA draft — and should have six more picked later this month — at least one NBA scout says perception is not always reality.
“The interesting thing, and its not a knock, but there is this Kentucky mystique that Calipari has done a great job creating and perpetuating. The best part about Kentucky’s system is that can hide so many flaws at first glance,” the scout, who asked not to be identified because his team could draft a UK player, said.
Like what?
” MKG (Michael Kidd-Gilchrist)is a good defensive player, but he isn’t as good as people believe. Having (Anthony) Davis camped around the rim allowed players to play defense in a way which minimized their weaknesses,” the scout said.
More?
“The threat of the lob made (Marquis) Teague out to be a better point guard than he really is,” the scout said.
But wait. There’s more.
“In reality, the Kentucky system is smoke and mirrors. I remember being out in Vegas for a Summer League and I was sitting and watching games with a long-time Director of Scouting in the league. He said he was stunned at how unprepared Kentucky players were for the NBA, and he had drafted one of them,” the scout said.
:spideypalm:Is Anthony Davis a lock for the No. 1 pick? Yes, and it's not even close. Forget about the fact that the Hornets are saying publicly that they are still considering their options. He's the guy.
You can also forget about them trading the No. 1 pick. Sources say the Cavs offered them No. 4, No. 24, No. 33 and No. 34 for No. 1. And sources said the Cavs got a firm and quick "No!"
I think his measurements almost locked him to go 4 tbh.If anything you have to be a bit discouraged, because it's never a good thing when you're surprised at how good someone's vertical is. You start asking questions as to why his athleticism never shows up in games.
Who do you want more out of him between MKG and Barnes? People always mention how cool Kyrie and HB are but seem to forget Kyrie and MKG were high school teammates for 2 years.I agree. Apparently the Cavs already love him, so this is only going to help him. Only way he isn't a Cavalier is if MJ does something stupid or MKG is available.
He wants to have his own brand..I couldn't see him being content with being Kyrie's sidekick for 10 years.I am as anti-Barnes as it gets, and I do like MKG, so I'd take him in a heartbeat over HB.
I'm sure I'll come around to Barnes though when I realize I'm stuck with him for the next decade.
I don't know much about what he said about his brand, but it seems hilarious to me.He wants to have his own brand..I couldn't see him being content with being Kyrie's sidekick for 10 years.
