Its amazing that the NBA is the only professional sport where teams legitimately tank. Fucking pathetic.

How is it pathetic? What is the point of winning meaningless games in April when you're already in the lotto?

Answer: There is no point, you're jeopardizing your future. Although the Kings have terrible management anyway, so it probably doesn't matter.

Its about pride, its about playing to the best of your abilities because so many people in this world would kill to be in the situation these players are in. These teams who consistently tank NEVER amount to anything substantial. I also believe that there arent as many teams that tank as people say that do.

Its about being a true professional, because you are being paid like one. You should take your profession/job/career seriously. Because if a valuable player doesnt, then why should the rest of the organization?

The Thunder ended up with the 4th pick while having both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on their roster. Those guys have gotten no where with their tanking..

You amount to nothing as a team if you have terrible management (Kings, Warriors) obviously but the only way to get good is if you accumulate high lotto picks or you're in a large market and can get max FAs.

You can go the non-tanking route and turn into the Bucks though, if that's your preference.

GMs would rather have their teams lose meaningless games to improve their draft positioning.

The Thunder didnt get to where they are by tanking. Im sorry but youre wrong about that. And even if they did tank, the odds of being a successful team tanking as opposed to not tanking leans toward the side of not tanking to win. The Thunder are the exception, not the rule.

Bobcats, Raptors, Wizards, Nets, and Kings have repeatedly tanked and it has gotten them nowhere throughout the years. The Celtics tanked years ago and they ended up getting screwed out of the Duncan sweepstakes.

A true champion would never accept tanking as a means for future success. Just ask Michael Jordan, who in his book "For the Love of the Game" stated that he hated how management didnt allow him to continue to play because he was still supposedly "injured" in the 1985 season. Whom did the Bulls pick with that tank job that season? Brad Sellers.

I play to win, whether during practice or a real game. And I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win.

Umm, they ended up drafting James Harden, an elite SG while also having two potential superstars on their roster at the same time. They added some talent in the past few drafts, but the main reason they're an elite team is because they were able to get James Harden after having KD and RW already.

The Bobcats were a perennial low playoff seed for the last few years, until this year when they blew up the entire team so they could get a high draft pick because that's how you win as a small market. They finally realized Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson were not franchise players, go figure. The Raptors, Kings and Nets have horrible management. The Wizards have had some bad luck with being in bad drafts but they're set to pick up a franchise player to go next to John Wall, because of losing.

Guess how the Bulls ended up with Michael Jordan in the first place. They lost 19 of their last 23 games, including 14 of their last 15.

You know how the Rockets got Hakeem Olajuwon in the same draft? They lost 14 of their last 17 games, and 9 of their last 10.

Moral of the story, tanking isn't going to solve everything. You need good management and a little luck, but it's how you build a winner, unless you're a large market team.

Hmm I wonder why...They have horrible management that don't know how to evaluate players and put together a good team.

I wouldn't want a player or coach who purposely tanked on my team.

I do. Sorry I'm not too hot on the idea of a bunch of guys who won't be on the team next year winning meaningless games after they've sucked all year.

There's no place for tanking in the real world... It just doesn't happen.

Professional players will not purposely play worse so that they have a couple of extra bingo balls and a chance at drafting a 19 year old.

First, they have too much pride.

Second, they are playing for their jobs... it'll mess with their stats, or outsiders may cite them as being lazy players without knowing the background... and they can either get cut or overlooked when they become free agents.

Third, I refuse to believe coaches will tank... a guy who gets paid for his team's performance is going to lose games on purpose for a higher draft pick? Why, so the next coach gets the good players?

Tanking just doesn't happen, it isn't 2k I'm sorry. You aren't going to convince nba veterans and coaches to lose games on purpose for a better chance in the lottery.

Bad teams trotting out lineups full of D-Leaguers late into the season isn't just a coincidence. Injuries to good players are treated with extreme caution to the point where they are just shut down.

Are players going to go out and purposely lose? No, but a GM will do what he can to improve his lotto odds, and depending on the situation (Coach has security in his position), the coach will keep his "injured" players out longer.

Well isn't it just simply smart to not send out a guy with an injury if you aren't making the playoffs? I don't know if I'd say that is blatantly obvious tanking, just proceeding with caution. If you clinch your playoff spot and are playing well like say the Bulls/Lakers, it makes sense to bench your injured players... no need to aggravate injuries for later when their play doesn't change anything now. Same goes for teams who have clinched a spot out of the playoffs.

Well that's the point. You don't bring back an injured player when you're out of the playoffs, because it will mess with your lotto position i.e. the tanking phenomenon.

Although it is being thrown out way too much now, as if some of these teams weren't already awful.
