You don't bring them back because mathematically they can score 500 ppg and 500 rpg and 500 apg etc etc and you still wouldn't make the playoffs... so why risk them getting injured for next season?

It is being thrown out way too much, and while I see that maybe some owners/GMs may think of "tanking", I don't think there is any way that anyone who is or ever was involved in playing sports would even consider it for a second.

The reason to bring them back would be, because the coach would still want to win games although they're out of the race completely, and the player surely wants to come back but like you said there is no point to bring them back.

A player would never do it, that's obvious but you don't think a coach like Byron Scott, who has pretty good job security wouldn't mind seeing the Cavs lose out the season and increase his odds at getting AD? Or even Dwane Casey with Toronto.
