Sure-fire prospects don't exist. There have been so many hyped prospects that have just never panned out. Bryce Harper is considered a sure-fire prospect but he could just as easily get to The Show and be completely terrible.
What about Alex Rodriguez, Joe Mauer, and David Price? All 3 of them were selected 1st overall and they have all had very successful careers, they were also considered cant miss prospects.

You can't predict the future, no matter how good the prospect is, that's the bottom line.

Yea, those were prospects that missed. But you didnt answer my question, my 3 were considered by many to be sure fire prospects and they achieved the level of hype and potential that they received.

I already answered that when I talked about Strasburg. They were elite prospects who panned out.

The guys I named were considered sure-fire prospects as well and they never panned out.

More of the 1st overall draft picks never reached the hype than the ones that did, which is why there is no such thing as a sure-fire prospect.

Maybe I termed it incorrectly or maybe I didnt explain myself that well. When I saw David Price pitch and see that he was going to be selected 1st overall by the Rays, I said to myself this guy is going to be a great pitcher in the league and achieve all his potential, the same with Kershaw when I saw him pitch a couple of games. In my mind I felt that there was no way that they wouldnt be great.

And people who are a lot more knowledgeable about the game of baseball than you and I are felt the same way about Luke Hochevar, Delmon Young, and Matt Bush.

Look how that turned out.

Sure-fire means that there is no way possible that these guys could fail and time and time again guys with that label failed. Meaning that there is no such thing as a sure-fire prospect like I've said a billion times now.

its all based on First Place votes, and I'm actually surprised anyone voted for Kennedy because Kershaw was the clear favorite.

I mean don't get me wrong, Kennedy had an incredible year, but when Kershaw stands that far above everyone else, and the next guys in line are named Cliff Lee & Roy Halladay, it's amazing Kennedy even got 1 vote because of being up against "big names".
