NBA, union push to cusp of agreement to end lockout and preserve all, if not most, of season
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=At.MmHaTSQLLWZeHCPtisd28vLYF?slug=aw-wojnarowski_nba_labor_talks_102711

NEW YORK – The NBA and Players Association have moved to the cusp of ending the four-month old lockout, and there’s strong belief on both sides that Friday’s bargaining session could culminate with the framework of an agreement to preserve most, if not all, of a full season.

“It’s moved to a very good place,” one source briefed on Thursday’s 7½-hour bargaining session told Yahoo! Sports. “There’s a strong expectation [within the negotiations] that hands will shake [Friday].”
Here we go...

I wonder how long it will take for the season to actually get underway once a deal is reached. Will there be a preseason?

I don't believe so, at least I hope not. Pre-season is stupid lol.
They'd probably get started late November.

League source said talks broke when players wouldn't accept less than 52% of BRI. No talks scheduled. More cancellations today.

I don't know how much stock I'd put into that pugz, now it's just like the NFL lockout. Read this:

BREAKING: NBA LOCKOUT JUST ABOUT OVER, ACCORDING TO LOW-LEVEL TEAM EMPLOYEES WITH EMAIL ACCESS

After four months, the NBA lockout is in its dying throes, according to multiple team employees who have been informed by the league that business as usual will resume as early as Monday.

The New Jersey Nets ticket sales office, idle for most of the fall, is holding a series of hastily called meetings today under the theme "Be Ready." One staffer tells us that a department-wide email has been circulated, instructing employees that "it's time to get back to work." The short-staffed 76ers' team office has been told that Monday will be "all hands on deck," as per orders from the league.

As talks enter their third day, progress has already made on salary cap issues and an amnesty clause, and the only major remaining road block is BRI. As of this morning, the two sides were reported to be only 2.5 percent apart. All the employees we spoke to say the mood among their office higher-ups is to expect an agreement to be reached in principle by the end of the weekend, but also that they don't actually know anything because they are in fact low-level team employees. HIT THE SIREN.
Now you just have to ask, who do you believe?

I saw someone say that those emails were sent a month ago as well.. This is nothing like the NFL lockout. They already canceled games, and Stern is about to cancel more today.

It's a lot like the NFL lockout in that both sides seem to be making one last push before a deal is made.

The true insanity of it all! RT @darrenrovell Missing a month of the season costs $400M. Going from 52% to 51% on 7-year deal costs $280M!

Just to put my last post into a little perspective, the players want 52% and the owners are at 50%.

That shows how truly stupid this is.

It's not square one though. Basically everything has been agreed on but this.

And they say the players will not move from 52 or whatever, and aren't willing to compromise at all.

So unless the owners decide they want to just get this over with settle with 48, the season doesn't look likely.

If I was an owner I'd be willing to lose a season.. Players have too much power as is.

They weren't discussing BRI the last two days, that's why it looked like it was going well.
