Cris Carter: "Calvin Johnson Not Great"

Eight-time Pro Bowl receiver Cris Carter was asked on ESPN Radio this morning to list the elite wide receivers in the NFL. Lions receiver Calvin Johnson did not make his list.

Instead, Carter said, the top receivers in football are Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Greg Jennings, Reggie Wayne, DeSean Jackson and Roddy White.

“Calvin Johnson, he’s very, very good at Madden and Tecmo Bowl or whatever they’re playing now,” Carter said. “But on film, when I watch film, and I break down the film, he’s not to the point of these guys yet.”

ESPN Radio’s Mike Greenberg pointed out that Johnson has played with lousy quarterbacks, but Carter wasn’t buying it.

“I made eight Pro Bowls,” Carter said. “I made it with five different quarterbacks. They weren’t always great. So I don’t want to hear the excuse that I’m not playing with a great quarterback.”

Cris Carter was a Hall of Fame player, one of the greatest ever....but all's I have ever heard of him from former teammates and people who know him is that as a person, he's a Hall of Fame asshole too.

Btw I agree Desean is not a top receiver. I remember someone from Eagles camp saying Maclin, when healthy, is their #1. DJ10 is wicked fast, but I'd take Reggie over him. Wayne is a very good possession receiver

Desean is a playmaker.. period.

Calvin isn't top 3 IMO.. People just think because hes an athletic beast that he is one of the best, I wouldn't say that. Hes good, not great.

I've been impressed with what Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald have done recently, with the QB's they have had. Andre has had Scaub all along, but there's no denying how beastly Andre Johnson is.

I was referring to last year. Both the Lions and Cardinals had back ups QB's so what Calvin and Larry did was nice. I'm not saying that to take the credit away from Andre Johnson, because he is the best WR in the NFL imo. Well, the Cardinals haven't actually had a QB since Warner left.
