But really, I think we are trying Turner before we go for a trade. Not a bad idea I guess.
Must be thinking about getting rid of him... If he pitches well, then hard saying what the Tigers will do, maybe that will be enough for teams like Colorado to accept him before they give away a proven pitcher, I'm not sure. Is all I know, last I heard they weren't calling him up this year and now all of a sudden they are...

I know, but really would you give up Turner for anyone we have been mentioned to get aside from Jiminez?
And if they say we are out of the race for Jiminez, I don't foresee a trade with Turner.

No, I wouldn't. He might turn out to be something good for the Tigers. It's just weird with the timing of all of this. I question if they really are out of the Jiminez running. But, I heard Dombrowski was pretty desperate, so it's hard saying what he has planned. I hope he's not desperate enough to do something stupid.

What's not clear right now is what the Tigers have planned for Turner. Given how much their fifth starters have struggled, it would appear he is joining the Tigers to take over that spot in the rotation, but there's no indication of when he will make his first start. Duane Below is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Angels as of right now, but obviously that could change if Turner is in fact joining the team.

As for any official word from the Tigers, they aren't saying anything about Turner right now. Jason Beck reports that Turner is not with Double-A Erie, but the Tigers are declining to comment on his status for the time being.

Yeah, it's mysterious to say the least. Either we are trying him as a #5, or we are still in for Jimenez.

Cause I mean they just said he wouldn't be called up this year and then a week later he's called up a day or two before the trade deadline? They knew the #5 spot was questionable with Below and it would be hard to base it off of one game for Turner. There's something behind this and I'm sure we will find out soon. Might be a "lets see what you can showcase" for Turner as that article said. I just question the timing of all this and the rumors about a possible trade with Turner......

5 game winning streak for the Mets. Addition by subtraction?

Reports: Fister deal to Tigers heating up (updated with word of impending deal)
Posted by Larry Stone

Update 8:35 p.m.: It looks like the deal will be outfielder Casper Wells, left-handed pitcher Charie Furbush, third-base prosect Francisco Martinez and a player to be named (which I hear could be a significant piece of this deal) going to Seattle for Doug Fister and David Pauley.

It's tough to give up a guy like Fister, and Pauley is a valuable piece, but I'd say on first glance, the Mariners got a decent haul. Martinez is the Tigers' No. 4-rated prospect by Baseball America. In 91 games at Double-A this year, he's hitting .282 with a .319 on-base and .405 slugging. He has seven homers and 46 RBIs. Martinez, who is just 20, has 18 errors.

Update 8:15 p.m. It appears the deal is close to being done, with Fister and David Pauley going to Detroit for LHP Charlie Furbush, outfielder Casper Wells, and more. Hat tip to Jerry Crasnick for first word of the trade, and Danny Knobler and Jon Heyman for advancing it.

Wells is a right-handed hitter with some power. A former 14th-round draft pick in 2005, he hit 27 homers in the minors in 2008 and 21 in 2010. Here are his minor-league stats and his major-league stats.

Wells made a splash with the Tigers last year, hitting .323/.364/.538 in 93 at-bats. This year, he's at .257 with a .323 on-base percentage and .451 slugging percentage in 64 games. The only players on the Mariners with a higher slugging percentage are Dustin Ackley (.508) and ... wait for it.. Doug Fister (.500). Of course, Fister has only batted six times. Mike Carp has an identical .451 slugging percentage.

There's increasing word today that the Mariners are working toward a deal sending Doug Fister to the TIgers.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN first tweeted the development. He added that there's hopes of getting something done today. Danny Knobler of CBS Sportsline added that left-handed pitcher Charlie Furbush is expected to go to Seattle in the deal, along with others. He added that the Tigers may be trying to expand the deal to include Brandon League.

I can't imagine the Mariners trading Fister and not getting a hitter in return as the centerpiece. Furbush is a former fourth-round draft pick in 2007.

Jack Zduriencik and Detroit GM Dave Dombrowski hooked up on a deal on July 31, 2009 -- two years ago tomorrow -- that sent Luke French and Mauricio Robles to Seattle. Both pitchers are currently in Tacoma, while Washburn retired after going 1-3 with a 7.33 ERA in eight starts for the TIgers.

So it looks like we got Doug Fister who actually has solid numbers aside from his W/L but we all know why that is, the Mariners haven't helped out anyone this year. Looks like the Tigers also picked up David Pauley.

Wow, the Rockies were trying to rape the Tigers in order to get Jiminez.

DKnobler I'm told that in addition to pitchers (Turner and maybe Porcello or Scherzer), Colo asked for Boesch for Jimenez. #tradedeadline

I'm glad we didn't do that.

That's not really a rape at all. Porcello and Scherzer have pitched like shit this year. I know Porcello has had a good month but he went up against a bunch of shitty offenses. They both probably still have potential, especially since Porcello is just 22 but this is his 3rd year in the bigs and he still hasn't figured it out.

Turner and Boesch are big pieces though.

Watching Derek Jeter 3K makes me all in all more frustrated that he went on the DL when the played in Cincy. Not the fact I didn't get to see 3K, it's the fact that I will likely go down in my lifetime of not seeing Derek Jeter play in person, which I've been a fan of him for a while now.

/disappointed :suicide:

It would have NOT been worth it, that's just all there is to it.
