NFL.com - Panthers quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who wore No. 2 for the team last season, isn't ready to give the number to rookie Cam Newton.

"It's mine right now," Clausen told The Charlotte Observer. "We'll see what happens."

In addition to Clausen's jersey number, Newton, the first overall pick in the recent NFL Draft, has his eyes on the former Notre Dame quarterback's job as well.

Even though Clausen didn't do well last year, he still has done more than Cam has in the NFL. So, he has the right to that number. Cam hasn't done shit yet.

He's got an uphill battle to beat out Cam for the starting spot in my opinion simply because of how mucht he fans love Newton, and on the other side of that hate Clausen. Haha true. Cam should just let him keep the number. I mean, Clausen knows that he's going to have to step up everything he does, to try and keep his job, and that number is like the only thing left he can call his own. If he loses the starting spot, which is very likely, he'll still have his jersey. It'd be like a mini victory for him. Or maybe he's just being difficult about it for no reason, who knows lol.

What competition? It won't even be a competition. It'll be over before it even starts. Jimmy Clausen is not going to start over Newton, unless he's absolutely horrible. Only way he'd lose it is if he can't do anything right and they bring in a veteran QB. Either way, Clausen doesn't last a chance either way IMO.
