They have seen things. They seen his skill in college and they selected him with the first pick. Unless he breaks a leg or something like that in camp he will be the starter. You dont draft a qb with the first pick of the draft not to sit on the bench. It is that simple. Can you understand that?
But success in college MEANS NOTHING...well not nothing, but people don't always translate into the NFL...

lol I know they didn't draft him to sit on the bench, but that might be what he will do...if Clausen somehow wows everybody and Cam is a bust which loads of people thought.

Newton will probably be the starter, sure, but if the Panthers were to announce that right now, they'd be stupid as fuck. They will keep the competition open up until week one. That is what all good teams should do. Competition is healthy for everyone.

Yeah, Palmer was drafted first overall in '03 and he didn't end up playing until a year later. He stayed behind Jon Kitna for a year to learn some things so just because a team drafts a QB first overall, that doesn't always mean they are going to be the starter instantly. BUT, the Bengals weren't in a huge hurry to throw him in there since they had Kitna, the Panthers don't have anybody, they pretty much drafted him because they have no other options. He'll be the opening day starter unless something happens.

He's always come across to me as having that little brat kind of attitude. Just how he seems to me.

I thought he'd pan out a bit better than this in the NFL, my goodness..

The only way Newton doesn't get that number is if Clausen somehow lasts longer in Carolina than others expect. So long, that Newton gets a new number, and it becomes his.
