Notice I said superstar, and not star. So a guy like Joe Johnson wouldn't fit in here. I also don't think a player that is sellable is a superstar. A superstar is someone who does it on both end of the floor. So I'd say:

Lebron
Kobe
Dwight
DWade
CP3
DWill

Stars in the making:
Rose
Durant
Melo

I think I might add Durant to the superstar category, but I can't argue with anything else

My take is that Rose and Durant are well on their way, and maybe could be considered superstars already. They'll continue to improve on the defensive end of the court. Often in basketball it's not their man to man defense, but their team defense, that's what they need to improve on. That's what Melo needs to improve on.

Apparently Melo is already a 'superstar'.

Durant should be considered one too.

Not really a point behind this topic though. It really depends on popularity and exposure of certain players.

Nowitzki is easily a superstar in this league for example, but outside of Dallas he isn't that popular I can imagine.

+ This.

Although I think Rose is already a Superstar and a guy like Kevin love could be added to the "on the cusp".

Was actually REALLY close to putting Love up there. But until he gets out of Minnesota I can't put him there lol.

Derrick Rose is not on the cusp...

And Carmelo Anthony was a star in the making in 2003.

I like Rip's list much better then nola's. I just disagree with my boy K-Love and the world's most epic handshake not being there lmao.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyNz73Ssq4M ( for handshake )

I think Love deserves to be on the cusp, despite being in Minnesota. I mean, Blake is with the Paper Clips ffs.

You gotta get it done on both ends of the floor, Rose and Melo are poor defenders.

I'm not listening to anything you say about Derrick Rose...

I'm pretty sure LeBron was considered a superstar back in the day when he was still a poor defender.

+1

rose is, and how can anyone say melo isn't a superstar?
Like Bleacher said, you have to do it on both ends of the floor. Of course it depends on what you think a superstar is. Are you one of the people who thinks being a superstar means a player is well known and sellable? Then Melos a superstar. Or are you one of the people who thinks superstars are born on the court and do it on both ends of the court? If the latter, Melo isn't a superstar...yet

You won't listen to anything I said about him because he was getting praise for a 9-25 shooting night with 4 turnovers? lol

Really don't remember LeBron ever being a poor defender, maybe in his first few years in the league, but he's been one of the better perimeter defenders in the league over the past 5 years

I personally believe a super star is a guy who can pick his team up and put them on his back on a consistent basis. like Melo did in Denver and like Rose does in Chi-Town.

LeBron was not a good defender at all his first few seasons in the league.

A superstar is one of the elite players in the NBA. Derrick Rose is a superstar. Carmelo Anthony is a superstar. Dirk Nowitzki is a superstar.

I'd say Rose is a superstar, Westbrook is almost there, as is Aldridge. Griffin I also say is a superstar.

i agree with your first list

"on the cusp":
Russell: yeah i agree
Rose: he's a superstar. he's probably the favorite for MVP. what do you mean "on the cusp"? what does he have to do?

LMA: naw. he'll be a very good player, but he's on Pau Gasol's level of star
Blake: on his way. I agree with you. in terms of household name though, he's already there
Monta: naw.
Granger: no way

Guys like Nash, TD, Pierce and KG arent superstars anymore. but they still have the names and are still great players and can still take over games.

one more. Rondo
do we count him as a superstar?
