According to Buster Olney, if the Cardinals don't re-sign Pujols before the February 18th, when position players arrive at Spring Training, Pujols will test free agency.

----ESPN----

He's not goint to find the market he wants with Boston and New York having 1Bs. He should stay in STL

Cubs and Dodgers come to mind as players with enough money to lock him down.

lmao, oh will definitely find a market. Best player is baseball will get a hefty contract, no matter if the Yankees and Red Sox are in it or not.

You can also throw in the Tigers in that conversation. Even though they still have Cabrera at 1st, Pujols could be the DH that the Tigers have been searching for. With that being said, it also helps out their outfield with having Mags out in RF (I know he's not as effective as an OF as he used to be but the guy still has a glove).
But that's just my idea because I really hope the Tigers can work something out here.

first of all, if they had Miggy and Albert, Miggy would be the DH, not Albert

Tigers are pretty much set at 1st and DH though
Victor Martinez is not a full time catcher
Cabrera wont be playing 1st for long either
2 guys who will be splitting DH and 1st is enough, cant have albert too

Nobody get your hopes up... St. Louis should have to give up the Cardinals if they let Albert leave town. But I sure do wish the Cubs could pick him up, that would be amazing and a diss to the Cardinals. We gave them the "mighty" Ryan Theriot, so they should give us Albert. LOL

Only way Pujols is leaving St. Louis is if New York offers 30+ mill per season and St. Louis just decides they aren't going that high.

My thoughts exactly. Don't say the Yankees wouldn't place a bid on Pujols, because you know if he hits the open market there is no way the Yankees are gonna miss out on that opportunity. They'd find a way to get him in the lineup, whether at DH or by moving Tex to DH.

No doubt, you don't just not go after Pujols because you have a 1st baseman.. Teixeira is good but he can't touch Pujols.. No one can.

ARod is going to be a full time DH very soon if his hip keeps messing up

Pujols cant play OF any more
Tex cant play 3rd anymore

There's a lot better ways to waste $30 million dollars on this Yankee team than on Albert Pujols.

Lol it's Pujols. We'd make room for him.

Not going to happen though lol.

Well, the deadline passed w/o a deal. Considering that two high spening teams (NYY & BOS) both both have significant $ tied up at 1B, it'll be interesting who steps up the $250-300M offer.

This will definitely be the story of the regular season, Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals, going to be a very interesting year because before it is all said and done he could become the greatest hitter ever. I think the Cubs are going to make a huge push for him when he hits free agency.

I just don't see him ending up anywhere but St. Louis.
You need glasses then. I'm not saying that Pujols is going to whore himself out, but there will be teams offering him staggering amounts of money. If it's true that StL was at $19-21M annual, it's not in the ballpark of what he'll see on the open market. Franchise players move on in all sports and this will be another one.

90% he stays in STL, but the Yanks could always give him something like 8 years 240 mill with an opt out clause half way into it and call it a day.
