Red Wings in discussions with veteran goaltender, Evgeni Nabokov. Deal today? Will have to clear waivers if it gets done.

Interesting, will definitely be a good move for them with Osgood injured. Also if Howard happens to struggle in the playoffs, they have a veteran backup.

I HOPE this goes through so bad. I guess the deal is about done, but they're going to give him 575k which means he is likely to get claimed off waivers because its so cheap.

Seen that too. IDK how our present goalies are doing, but I've always liked Nabakov.

This is still in the rumor phase but I wouldn't be surprised. Don't get too excited my Detroit homies...b/c of limited cap space, the Red Wings would be merely negotiating for teams like Ottawa and the Isles. If the Wings managed to agree to a deal in the $500-$600K range...I have no doubts one, or both, of those teams will place a waiver claim.

Red Wings sign goalie Evgeni Nabokov and now wait out waiver process

It’s been rumored about all day, but the Red Wings made it official late tonight signing former Sharks goalie and recent KHL exile Evgeni Nabokov to a one-year contract. The Red Wings will now wait 24 hours starting at noon tomorrow to see if Nabokov clears waivers so they can retain his services.

We'll know today, about around 11pm et.

He was put on waivers at noon today. We won't really know clearly till like 11 or 12 tonight if he is going to clear. I doubt he clears though.

Oh, I misread AE's post. I thought he said 11 am.

IDK how the waiver system works in the NHL.

^Teams can put in claims, but the order of who claims goes from last to first in the NHL.

It's the fact that they have to pass waivers when coming over from Europe that is the problem

then how did the sharks get welly?

btw, he didn't want to play there. He didn't want the checking role, he wanted to play here where he had a top 2 line role, scoring goals.

24 hours...we should have a pretty good idea of how this is going down.
I know it's 24 hours. So then how would it be 11:00 pm tonight? 24 hours would be 12:00 noon today - 12:00 noon tomorrow....

I assume no other teams a head of the Sharks in the waiver order wanted him.

It would be a great addition for the Red Wings, especially with Osgood being hurt, he's nothing great anymore anyways and Jimmy has been banged up a bit lately. If the Red Wings do happen to get him, I'll be happy about that. Him and Jimmy will be good.
