I don't see how baseball gets by, without selling a lot of tickets, and throwing ridiculous amounts of money at players.

Stubborn old people and it being "America's Favorite Pastime", go to games, chill with your kids, have a beer, and eat hot dogs.

Real good question though. I'd like to know how the MLB is still alive.

I'm cringing Rip. Not hitting any panic buttons but I definitely looked forward to the prospect of Crawford being out of the AL East.

Great signing for Boston, I think it needed to be done in order for to show baseball that they don't plan on watching the Yankees run away with the AL East every year. Look carefully at what Theo has has/is doing with his roster and he's slowly turning it over from a power hitting team into more of a speed, manufacture runs type. Getting out of the PED era of baseball, this is what needs to be done. Yankees are doing the same thing by keeping guy like Granderson and Gardner around. Red Sox lineup looks good now, top to bottom, and if JD Drew can stay healthy...GTFO. Jacoby Ellsbury benefits the most from this move and if healthy, he's the best #9 hitter in the league. Already a pain in the ass on the bathpaths and he's gonna score a lot of runs in 2011. Anything that doesn't hit the green wall in Fenway will end up in Crawford's glove.

Cliff Lee can thank Theo for that 7th year. I'll thank Theo for doing what he can to restore those epic New York vs. Boston ALCS series.

A 7 year contract for Crawford isn't as bad as a 7 year contract for Lee... whose older and in my opinion not that dominant through 30+ games but typically is more dominant because of his post-season abilities. Which is why I feel WHOEVER gets Lee is overpaying significantly and will regret the later years of his contract.

It looks like the Yanks will most likely pick him up.

But doesn't the NFL and NBA do that to? And they are struggling from the sounds of things.

Based on what?

All that matters is which offer is better. The Yanks or the Rangers. Supposedly the Rangers have made an offer and we don't know the terms. Is it better than the Yankees offer? Is it close and maybe he decided to stay in Texas if it only means a few less $$? We don't know.

I honestly don't care who gets him, whoever signs the guy is overpaying anyhow. I kind of actually hope its the Yankees so I can see him be a 14-12 pitcher with a 3.80 ERA when he's 37 years old, making $24M and I hear the Yankees fans around me <Censored>.

1. If this is true.
2. Whose holding the whip.

Thank you. I am not the only one who thinks he will be overpaid and somewhat overrated.

Well the yanks offered him a 7 year contract..... The initial offer was 6 years 140 mil. It surely has to be more now.

Compared to the rest of society yes. Compared to the rest of the league, many are underpaid. You think they earn a lot though, but in a reality a lot goes towards taxes and their agent.

I don't quite understand what you're arguing with me about....

I've known for hours that they upped their 6 year offer to a 7 year offer.

Rangers tonight gave Lee multiple offers, as did the Yankees. Yankees gave him other options, such as 6 or 5 years but with more money each year. Rangers apparently have done the same. IS there anything that puts the Yankees ahead? No... because for all we know the Rangers matched the Yankees' 7 year offer with nice perks for his family along with even better incentives for awards, etc.

Nobody is ahead... not yet at least. We'll probably know a lot more in the morning.

Everyone knows 7 years for Cliff Lee is ridiculous, I mean <Censored>, Cliff Lee knows it. Cliff Lee for 7 years would absolutely handcuff the Rangers, (and 90% of the league), for too long to make it worth while. The Yankees are desperate to add to the rotation and they've made it pretty clear that they will do whatever it takes to sign him. Whoever signs him will be looking for a way out come 3-4 seasons; however, the Yankees aren't looking that far ahead. If they can win 2 or 3 Championships out of the next 7 years, Cliff Lee is more than worth it to the Bombers. We all know that the Yankees can afford to make huge deals that turn out to be dead weight later on. Its been done before...several times.

I'm just saying that theres a really good chance that the Yankees will push for Lee even more now (and the are) because the Sox signed Crawford and end up overpaying him much more than we expected and there is something that puts the Yankees ahead. The fact that Sabathia is good friends with Lee will also influence Lee's decision.

Its a no brainer GMF...Cliff Lee is a Yankee or else he's taking significantly less amount of money to play in Texas. Matter of fact, the Rangers are most likely bringing the 3rd highest offer to table now. Sources had the Angels prepared to enter the Cliff Lee sweepstakes and I believe that they'll really get in on the action now that Crawford slipped through the cracks.
