I'd give the guy a 5 year, 75 million dollar deal today and feel fine with it.

Vladdy has one the most outstanding DH. Great comeback season by him.

The awards keep piling up for the Texas Rangers with Vladimir Guerrero winning the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award on Wednesday.

More on the Rangers

Richard Durrett and the rest of the ESPNDallas.com team have the inside scoop on the Rangers, the American League and Major League Baseball. Blog

Guerrero beat out Boston's David Oritz and Minnesota's Jim Thome. Toronto's Adam Lind won the award last year.

Guerrero had a bounce-back season, hitting .300 with 29 homers and 115 RBIs in 152 games in his first season in Texas. He hit .306 with 106 RBIs as the DH to lead all players in that role.

He becomes the second Ranger to win the award after Rafael Palmeiro in 1999.

It's not clear if Guerrero will be back with the Rangers next season. The team declined a $9 million option for 2011 on Guerrero's contract. He received a $1 million buyout, but the team has expressed interest in working out a new deal.

The designated hitter award is voted on by club beat writers, broadcasters and American League public relations departments. An outstanding DH has been named since 1973, and in 2004 commissioner Bud Selig named it after Martinez, a five-time winner.

Guerrero's award follows Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton who was named AL MVP on Tuesday.

I think that a name change to "28Rings" will be in order for this season.

Jose Reyes is available, but the Mets want three or four players in exchange for their shortstop, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter). Reyes, 27, earns $11MM in 2011 before becoming a free agent. He hit .282/.321/.428 with 30 steals and 50 extra base hits in 603 plate appearances last year.

There's no indication that Mets GM Sandy Alderson is actively shopping Reyes, but there would be a market for him. Earlier today, Schulman reported that the Giants are focusing on finding a shortstop. Along with the Cardinals and Padres, they have interest in free agent Miguel Tejada. Tejada, Juan Uribe, Cesar Izturis Jason Bartlett, J.J. Hardy, Marco Scutaro and others are potentially available, but in general the shortstops available via trade or free agency aren't overly appealing.

Reyes' asking price is high and Im not totally against it if we get a stockpile of pitchers in return. But at the end of the day, Reyes at this time is too valuable to trade him, he had a decent year, so I think that this might be a tactic of our Gm to get him to sign for cheaper. Reyes really wants to stay a Met.

Nice eatings eater for the dodgers. I thought he'd be asking for more than that considering the year he had.

Apparently he took less money to play for the Dodgers.

I completely agree, but I really wanted him. He had a low ERA, good IP, and a good clubhouse guy who wins games. Thats what we needed for our rotation.

Garland only pitched as well as he did because of the ballpark he was in and the defense behind him. His ERA was a run higher on the road than it was at home. His about 4 BB/9 aren't a good sign either, especially since he's only striking out about 6 per 9.

The Mets ballpark is more of a pitchers park than Dodger Stadium so he would do well here. You dont have to strikeout out a lot of batters to be a great pitcher. As you can see he didnt strike many guys out, but the balls in play were caught and it our big ballpark they would just be easy outs.

You obviously don't have to strike out a lot of guys to be successful, as I've already said on this site, but when he's walking as many guys as he is, his ERA being as low as it was was due to a lot of luck.

The Pads are also a much better defensive team than the Mets.

i think you're talking about the mets, but i'll post anyways

he's the Dodgers 5th starter. 5th.
and Dodger Stadium is a pitchers park. he'll be fine here. last season it was musical chairs. every time it was the 5th starters turn, we would just pick a new guy, and try to avoid the 5th starter every chance we got

now with a solid 5, we can just throw our 5 out there every day and keep the innings of Bills and Kershaw to a very workable load.

in other news, the Dodgers signed Juan Uribe. 3/21M
rofl. horrible deal. I like Uribe, he'll be good for the Dodgers and play mostly 2nd base, but still a lot
