The Mavericks intend to pursue Zydrunas Ilgauskas if he receives a buyout from the Washington Wizards.

Erick Dampier underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning to repair an open dislocation of his right middle finger suffered on Tuesday.

"He'll be out for a while," coach Rick Carlisle said. "I'm just not sure exactly how long."

The Mavericks can only offer Ilgauskas a prorated portion of the veteran's minimum salary of about $1.3 million. Ilgauskas has spent his entire 12-year career with the Cavaliers, but he would have to wait 30 days to return to Cleveland.

The Chicago Bulls are close to a deal to send John Salmons to the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Kurt Thomas and center Francisco Elson, according to sources that spoke to David Aldridge.

Both Thomas and Elson are expiring contracts.

This deal would mean Chicago is almost officially out of the running for Tracy McGrady, as Salmons would have been a component of that deal.

With Cleveland having acquired Antawn Jamison, the Heat are left as the only known suitor for Amare Stoudemire.

The Bulls checked in with Phoenix about Stoudemire earlier in the week, according to a source, but have been largely quiet.

I got my fingers crossed hoping that Nate stays in New York. I would love to have T-Mac, but I don't wanna lose Nate. He's all we got. Only man to ever win 3 Slam Dunk Contests. We need SOMETHING to be proud of as Knicks fans lol.

Well he wasn't going to resign with you guys anyways. Might as well trade him and get something in return. It's better than nothing lol.

As talks with the New York Knicks stalled on Wednesday night, the Houston Rockets quietly recruited the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-team trade discussion that would deliver Tracy McGrady(notes) to the Chicago Bulls, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The proposed deal was contingent on John Salmons(notes) staying with the Bulls, but that appeared in doubt with the Milwaukee Bucks expecting to complete their own trade for Salmons.

In the proposed trade, the Rockets would get Kenny Thomas(notes), Andres Nocioni(notes), Beno Udrith and a Kings’ protected No. 1 draft pick. Sacramento would acquire Tyrus Thomas(notes), Brad Miller(notes) and Salmons from the Bulls. The deal would cleare cap space for the Bulls this summer and save the Kings as much as $15 million in salary next year.

One source with knowledge of the Knicks’ talks with the Rockets said New York isn’t enthused about Houston’s demands. The Rockets want to trade first-round picks in 2011 and take the Knicks’ 2012 pick. They also have asked for cash, the source said.

It is unclear whether the Bulls will try to revive talks with the Rockets if they complete their trade with the Bucks. However, Houston clearly is worried about where the discussions with New York are headed as the deadline looms on Thursday.

On the eve of the trade deadline, Donnie Walsh continues working to pin down the final elements of an offer that will land Tracy McGrady and shed the contract of Jared Jeffries.

Simultaneously, Walsh is working to swing a trade with the Bulls centered around Tyrus Thomas and Al Harrington.

Mike D'Antoni may be driving the Knicks' interest in Thomas. The coach is apparently enthralled with the idea of plugging the athletic talents of Thomas into his uptempo system.

Chicago is unlikely to offer Thomas his qualifying offer during the offseason should they not trade him.

Amare Stoudemire will likely remain with the Suns through another trade deadline of countless rumors.

Cleveland was very interested in acquiring Stoudemire, but decided to execute their trade with Washington for Antawn Jamison on Wednesday. The Cavaliers waited for an answer from Phoenix during the 2009 deadline on a trade for Shaquille O'Neal deal and were ultimately left with nothing, which prompted their urgency this year.

The Miami Heat have continued to express interest in Stoudemire, and have offered Udonis Haslem, Quentin Richardson, Daequan Cook and a first-round pick. The Heat so far are unwilling to include Michael Beasley in any deal, league sources said.

Miami likes their chances of signing Stoudemire during the offseason without having to relinquish any assets, which is why they have not improved their offer.

One league source with knowledge of the talks was skeptical the Suns will make any trade.

“No deal will happen,” the source said. “Miami is a long shot, at best.”

The Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to a deal in principle that will send John Salmons to the Bucks for the expiring contracts of Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson, sources said on Wednesday.

The deal allows the Bulls to clear Salmons $5.8 million salary off the books for next season. That puts them roughly $20 million under the cap next summer as the Bulls make a push to sign free agents like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Solid deal for both sides.

The Wizards currently have over $33M in pure expiring contracts, which they could conceivably use in trades similar to the one Houston GM Daryl Morey has been negotiating with the Knicks over the past few days.

The Rockets are attempting to acquire multiple assets from New York to capitalize on Donnie Walsh's goal of clearing Jared Jeffries' 2010-11 contract off the books.

Washington's $33M-plus in expiring contracts does not include Josh Howard's $10.89M for 09-10. Howard's contract includes a team option for just over $11.8 million for 10-11.

It is not yet clear what GM Ernie Grunfeld's intentions are in regards to the hours leading up to the 3:00 PM EST deadline, but his options are infinite.
Damn they certainly got a lot of options. But if they decide to hold on to all the expirings, who is actually going to want to sign with the Wizards? lol

Howard Beck of the New York Times reports that all of the players have been agreed upon in the potential trade between the Rockets and Knicks for Tracy McGrady.

The remaining negotiating point is protection on the draft picks the Rockets would gain in the trade. The Rockets want no protection on either the 2011 or 2012 first-round picks but the Knicks want protection in case the team misses the playoffs, and is in the lottery, either year.

Beck reports that the trade would send Jared Jeffries, Larry Hughes and Jordan Hill to Houston in exchange for McGrady, Brian Cook and Joey Dorsey.

Clearing Jeffries from their payroll would mean the Knicks would be very close to the amount of cap room they will need to offer two maximum contracts this summer.

"It could be the most important trade the Knicks have made in a decade," writes Beck.

"I'm hopeful," Donnie Walsh said, without commenting on any specific discussion.

"We've come a long ways in two years," Mike D'Antoni said. "We're not going to waver from what we want. And if something will come along that helps in the future, then that's what we'll do."

Rockets tried to recruit Kings in T-Mac deal

Kings would give up K-9, Beno, Noc, and a protected 1st and would get Salmons, Miller, TT. Scenario in jeopardy with Salmons traded to Bucks. Jerome James could be included to make salaries match instead.

Why would Memphis try to do that? I'd rather Mayo over the long term.
