Yeah but thats not really what they're looking for. They want to move Pablo over to 1B and sign/trade for a 3B.

What would be their asking price though?

I'm sure they'd ask for Jonathan Sanchez but Sabean is reluctant to move him. IMO he's gonna keep that untapped potential his entire career til it withers away <_<

I can see a deal getting done very soon, cuz Bay is looking for other offers and there just arent any others out there. We need to set a deadline and just say take it our leave it. As for Delgado, I am done with him. The guy is way too old and we arent 1 move away from being a contender right now.

The Giants offered Bay what he wanted...why hasn't he accepted <_<. STFU Jason and get over the fact you don't want to play in SF. He's overrated anyways and at least someone wants to pay him over 5 years <_<

He doesnt want to play in NY either..... I dont think someone offered him 5 years, cuz he wouldve gone there and its been a week since that leaked out. I really like the Mariners this year, really really like them.

How can the Giants afford not to seriously pursue the best hitting prospects -- Jason Bay and Matt Holliday -- on the free-agent market? I think it is blatantly obvious that not doing so sends a message to the fans that the organization is not committed to winning. Statistics illustrate that if the Giants could consistently muster more than three measly runs a game, they could become the best team in baseball! The current strategy of bringing in mediocre veterans has produced abysmal results in almost every hitting category. Is the Giants front office really incapable of realizing this simple relationship?

The Giants can't do a heck of a lot if they woo a player who doesn't want to come to San Francisco. If you believe Peter Gammons, and most of us "baseball professionals" (see opening question) do, the Giants were prepared to give Bay the five-year deal that other teams were reluctant to offer. But Bay apparently has no desire to nestle where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars. And Holliday has given no indication that he wants to be a Giant, though his agent, Scott Boras, is obliged to rouse as much interest as possible

In hopes of trying to add Jason Bay to the middle of their lineup, it seems as if the Mets could be competing against, well, themselves. At least that's what SI.com suggests. As the Web site wrote, "beyond the Mets, who remain keenly interested and in touch with his agent, Joe Urbon, nearly all of Bay's market remains [a] mystery at this point." The Mariners, fresh off acquiring Milton Bradley, seemed to have interest, but are not a serious player for Bay, people familiar with the club's thinking told SI.com. The Red Sox have moved on after signing Mike Cameron, and SI.com added that the Giants and Braves aren't looking like potential suitors for Bay, either.

The Mets, who have reportedly remained interested in Matt Holliday, as well, have offered Bay a four-year deal at close to $65 million, but are believed to also have a five-year contract for a lower average annual value -- amounting to a total of about $75 million -- as an alternative, SI.com added. If the market for Bay only involves them, perhaps they won't even have to go there

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Reds have restructured the contract of third baseman Scott Rolen and added two years to a deal that will keep him with the club through the 2012 season.

Rolen will receive $23.63 million over the length of the new contract. He was originally set to make $11 million next season but instead will earn $6 million with a $500,000 bump for each of the ensuing two years that were added. A $5 million signing bonus is also included, although it's deferred over the length of the deal.

The 34-year-old was acquired from Toronto in a four-player swap at last season's trade deadline. In 40 games after joining the team, Rolen batted .270 and knocked in 24 runs. He hit .305 with 11 home runs, 36 doubles and 67 RBI in a combined 128 games last year.

His brief time in Cincinnati was also marred by a beaning in his second game with the club that required a stay on the disabled list.

Over 14 seasons in the league, Rolen is a lifetime .284 hitter with 283 home runs and 1,129 RBI for Philadelphia, St. Louis, Toronto and the Reds.

I've been sitting around for 48 hours waiting for some sort of update on Bay and the Mets... and have nothing... lol. This is like the strangest negotiating I have ever seen. The two sides are basically "in a staring contest waiting for the other side to blink" according to one of the guys at Metsblog.com... this is so intense haha.
