People have long suspected that Richard Seymour's big contract could mean his days in New England are numbered.

Those people appear to be right.

According to a report by Boston.com's Mike Reiss, the Patriots are finalizing a deal that will send the defensive lineman to Oakland in exchange for a 2011 first-round draft pick.

The eight-year veteran has been a part of each of the Patriots' Super Bowl teams. Throughout his career, he has played in 111 games, registering 227 tackles, six recovered fumbles, two interceptions and one touchdown. Last season, he played in 15 games for New England and racked up 34 tackles.
:headsmack: Really Oakland?

You think it's a money move with Al Davis having to pay all these huge contracts to high draft picks, so he figures 2011 will be high also and doesn't want to pay the money?

Wow, what an Al Davis move. Jeez - hopefully the Raiders pick it up and the pick isn't too high. This money is clearly going to be set for the signing of Wilfork..

Richard Seymour is also playing in the last year of his contract.

The Raiders won't even still have the guy when New England is making that high-first round draft choice in 2011.

When have the Raiders not been able to bring the guys they want back? If Al Davis wants him, he'll sign him long term.

So where exactly does Richard Seymour fit into that 4-3 defensive scheme you guys have there? He's a 3-4 End that isn't an effective pass rusher in a 4-3...meaning the Raiders will have an out of position Seymour or have to move him to DT.

Move the guy to DT and he's even more overpaid for his position than he already is.

He will most likely play UT, which he's made the Pro Bowl twice at.

No, the UT is a 3-4 position...and the Raiders play a 4-3 scheme. They are going to play him next to Tommy Kelly which is stupid. This guy is now a way overpaid and aging DT.

Well there might not be a salary cap next year, so money wouldnt be an issue for Al Davis. Nice move by the Pats like usual.
