It's not an exageration at all. Go look at the final scores of all the playoff games this year and you'll see the majority of them have 100+ to upper 90's as the final score. The differnce in scoring stems from the defensive rule changes they have made the past 10 years not how better players are offensively now a days. To be honest today's players can't shoot for the life of them. Players from the 80's and 90's shot better from the field. Today's players are dunkers which is why we're seeing more and more foreign players in the NBA because they bring that shooting touch with them. There are also no legitimate centers anymore either. So teams are smaller in general and just run up and down the court more then they did in the past.
When you look at what are considered the elite teams currently (Lakers, Celtics, Cavaliers, Magic, Spurs, etc.). They're all teams that are considered top defensive teams. If you're content with the Heat getting Boozer just because you wanna claim that no one plays defense anymore, far be it from me to stop you, but they aren't going to get anywhere. Even the Nuggets, when they brought defensive minded Billups onto the squad, they were scoring 110+. Now that they're committing more to the other side of the floor, scores went from 90-100.

I agree that games today are different because of all the rule changes, and mind-set of players attitudes, and games that scores are different from the 80/90s, and I don't like it, but even considering the standard of today's games. If you wanna get anywhere you still have to play defense. There's a reason why even the high-powered Suns of a few years ago never got anywhere. The bottom half playoff teams can get there by just running up and down, but as evidenced by the past couple of years. It's still the same old thing. Who cares if all players wanna do is dunk, and it's the reason why players from overseas are coming over. Even the worst man-defenders can commit to playing help defense. The teams that commits to playing defense are the ones that are going to get you there.

If all you wanna do is get to the playoffs, then settling for Boozer and a small running lineup is fine, but being that I'm from LA my standards are different. Over here we talk championships, not just getting to the playoffs.

Agreed! The teams that do make it to the finals and even the final four teams do step up and play some defense when the game is on the line. The majority of the league though either plays an offensive game or the teams just suck all together. I'm not a Heat fan at all and could care less where Boozer goes. I was just stating how defense is a rarity in the league now a days. And if Boozer is traded to the right team who knows maybe he can fit in and bring a championship team.

I'm from Chicago and a huge Bulls fan. They are also in the Boozer trade talks and in no way do I think he'll be bringing a championship with him if he is trsded here. But I do feel he can be a piece of the puzzle should they go out and get Bosh or Wade or someone the following year to compliment Boozer and Rose.

Just heard via radio that the Heat offered 9 million a year to Odom, but they don't know how many years.

I read this morning that Riley spoke at a seson ticket holder dinner or something last night and told them that the Heat were definitely interested in signing Odom. Guess it was true.

I didnt even know Miami had CAP room to offer 9mil

I read they offered a 5yr MLE deal. Which I think would be enough to get him for two reasons.

He wants a 5 year deal, and he's already played in Miami. I wouldnt be suprised to see him take that deal, but I think he would re-sign with LA if they were to put that 9mil deal back on the table.

NVM... just read this on realgm

Pat Riley confirmed that the Heat have been in talks with Lamar Odom and have prepared an offer that matches what the Lakers have put on the table, when accounting for Florida's lack of state income tax and other options regarding payments.

During a private discussion with season ticket holders, Riley also said that their goal of attracting a top 2010 talent remains their most important.

If Odom bolts, he's going to miss the feeling of having a championship. He'll regret this!
