Kupchak said Bynum has been in New York and underwent physical therapy in 19 of the last 21 days and has been cleared to work out and play.

"He's basically on his own to begin conditioning and basketball activity, starting today," Kupchak said. "It's a process. Based on what he did last year, I would expect him to come in in mid-September basically in great shape. I know that's his goal. He's coming back this weekend, we're going to meet with him Monday. He will go to Atlanta late next week to begin his training for the upcoming season."

Who says he'll start? Jackson doesn't like playing two big men...

Are you serious? Pau showed he deff can't handle being the starting center. They're gonna prolly put him back to his natural position now (PF), and in effect move Bynum back to starting center.

plus: This will help put Odom back to his natural position of SF.

Fisher - Bryant - Odom - Pau - Bynum

CC, you cant be serious
dont act like Bynum isnt gonna start.
After everything he did last season, and the thought of playing Pau at PF, there's no way Bynum doesn start.

Yeah. Pjax has said it himself that Bynum's and Pau's games compliment each other perfectly, he looks forward to having Pau go back to his natural position facing the basket as Bynum will be the post up guy, its just their job to get it done on the court. Provided that Bynum comes back full force or close to it everyone and their grandma should know that he's going to start next to Pau... CC's just trying to nitpick like usual.

Holy crap, a role player is cleared to play.

Why doesn't anyone else realize that Bynum is just a role player? Most overrated player in the NBA, he gets so much hype yet maybe he'll average 10/10 this year up coming year with an added scoring option in Pau on the team.

He won't get 10 RPG. Only way that happens is if they trade Odom for Artest.

Are you serious??? You can't be serious by saying he's the most overrated player in the NBA. How is a player who was breaking out and showing some serious progress after being a mediocre player the years before even close to overrated. He deserves all the hype he got before the injury, I don't know how you can't see that.

He's so hyped and a bit overrated because he's a Laker in that huge market. So of course he'll get talked about to much.

He gets talked about like he's a star, people say the Lakers would have won the final with him? I somehow doubt it.

How good do you consider Andrew Bogut, and if he's good or not, or worth his contract? Because you should realize he puts up better numbers then Bynum and has the same attributes as Bynum.

He deserves all the hype he gets? I've heard people say he's a top 3 center in the league which is way off.

He is overrated, and if you can't see it take your homer glasses off.

he's hyped becaus eof what he was doing.
right before the injury he was averaging like 17/12, and leading the league in FG%
he was showing that he has post moves, and excellent defense.
I agree that top 3 Center is overrating him, so I could see where your coming from.
but there's no doubt that he's one of the best young bigs.
all you people who are saying bynum sucks havent seen him play on a nightly basis like us Laker fans have. He does a ton of stuff that doesnt show up on the stat sheets. and the stuff that does show up, isnt too bad

He led the league in FG % because of easy dunks... I hardly ever saw him take a normal jump shot when I saw laker games, all I saw was dunks and ally opp catches.

just a taste
also his last game against the Bucks he got 25/17/5 blocks

and what's wrong with getting dunks?
how often do people criticize players for not goin strong to the whole, but when Bynum does it, that's all he does?

How about we put some substance behind these claims?
I myself think that Bynum is only going to be the third scorer on the team, maybe the fourth if Artest comes to town. But he was far from just being a role player before he went down. He was undoubtedly the second best guy on a very improved Lakers team before he went down. Averaging 17 and 13 in Jan. before he went down in JUST 28 mpg. Played one game full time, 35 minutes and put down 25 and 17. Provided he comes back full force idk why you're trying to put down Lakers fans for being happy that he's coming back? He wasn't just getting lobs either like Tyson Chandler does, during those big strides he was taking as the season went on he was using his back to the basket more and creating shots for himself. He's also a big force defensively inside as well. People also say he's overrated defensively, 2bpg? And not just that according to 82games.com the stats say that manning up on his guy he was the best defending big man in the league behind only Dwight Howard.
