LOL, him in Phoenix would be a wreck. A WRECK. Complete opposite of D'Antoni. D'Antoni to Dallas is even a better fit then that lol
If its a wreck, not Avery's fault, it was dumb to start off by getting Shaq..

I'm not gonna even bother read the whole thing, as soon as you said Avery controlled everything, i stopped. Of course he controlled everything, because of them, there lucky they even one a game in the series.................
No, because of him, he controlled a HOF PG who we got, and made us look like we lost that trade because of Kidd's decline when he came to us. It's not him, ITS AVERY. Avery didn't want to run an up-tempo team where that is Kidd's style. Avery was so used to demanding everything from Devin Harris. Avery just never trusted Harris. Now.....with Kidd he doesn't know how to let go. He's still calling the play and not letting Kidd run a team like he's know for.

Avery is a good coach...might work. And D'Antoni is a good coach...might work. I can see both happening, but I think someone will go to Chicago, cause they have a good core of young players.

I don't see why Avery is the escape goat on this trade. We had a style and it was working (we only got bounced from the first round last year, because we played a Golden State team that had our number, it also doesn't help that Don Nelson was the opposing coach, and Avery was his product, and he knew Avery). Our playoff woes are no way Avery's fault. In the finals it wasn't Avery's fault that our players quit when they went up 2-0, and it wasn't our fault that Wade got the superstar treatment. I already explained why we didn't beat the Warriors. I strongly believe that if the Clippers would of made it instead of the Warriors, there was no one that could of stoped the Mavs.

This year it was a trade for a declining point guard. Jason Kidd doesn't have the speed he use to, and this last series proved it. Chris Paul ran him off the court, and then some. You know who would of been a good quick point guard that could of slowed Paul down? Devin Harris. We also need some inside defense in that series and you know who was that guy for the Mavs? Desagana Diop. We traded our future for a shot at this years finals, and it obviously didn't work out, so I say this trade was a utter failure. So why are we blaming Avery. "Because he didn't but a system in for Kidd, where we could run". Ok for one, who is going to run with him? Dirk is too slow, Terry is decent, but doesn't like to step within the 3 point line much anymore, Howard is more of a half court player, and everyone else is too slow or too old. Also why should we have to adopted a new system in the heat of the season.

Jason Kidd is the downfall of this organization, not Avery. Anyone who doesn't think so, is just trying to cover up the huge failure that Jason Kidd was in Dallas.

It's a shame that such a good Head Coach was fired. It wasn't entirely his fault, but he also must take some of the blame. Bringing in Kidd was just stupid, they basically have another year or 2 with a chance to win it all, and after, they will suck horribly. They have mediocre role players as well, and probably would've done better with the players they traded, but who knows. The thing is, there HAS to be change, and it is easier to change Head Coaches than dismantling the team. They will probably not get a Head Coach as good as Avery, but, they can get one that fits their current team better, as in Mike D'Antoni.

What has Avery accomplished? Avery constantly gets outcoached in every playoff series. And with our team we have now we can't do that. We need someone who can actually handle adjustments and make his own adjustments. Avery is terrible with making changes. I mean he had JJ Barea out in the 3rd quarter of Game 4. I mean WTF was he doing. He's a great motivator, not a great coach. He doesn't know how to run any offensive schemes. His offensive schemes are one on one isolation offense and that doesn't work with our team.

How can you blame Kidd whenever Avery isn't let Kidd play his style that has made him a top 5 PG of all-time? Avery's a freakin control freak.

I'm so happy he's gone. Get someone who can play his players so there strengths are shown, not there weaknesses.

IDC what he did in the post-season. This makes Cuban look like even more of a moron.

If anyone needs to go, it's Cuban.

Doesn't the 'fault' of a trade usually go to the GM and/or Owner (just look at the Yankees and people that blame Cashman/Steinbrenner)...so if that's the case why is Avery getting all the crap for the Kidd trade? Shouldn't Donnie Nelson and Mark Cuban be involved too?

If I remember right, Cuban wanted to keep Devin Harris, and Avery wanted Kidd.

I think it was the other way around.
Ah yea, that could be.

Also I think its easier to "fire" the coach rather than trading a bunch of players. Whether its the problem or not. Maybe it was a bad move, but oh well too late now. Just have to wait and see how he does and which team he goes to.

Exactly, Baggs is 100% right. This isn't Avery's fault. Last season they had a terrible first round match-up. They couldn't really do anything about that. Then this year the GM/Owner makes a terrible move, that aswell affects the teams future.

I don't get how this all adds up to Avery being fired, after beeing the most winningest coach the Mavs have had over the 2(or more?) year span he's been there.

Well the Chargers fired their coach 2 seasons ago, and he had a way good record to. Sometimes the owner just thinks the team needs to move on.

Move on in the wrong direction, only place for the current roster for the Mavs is down..

Keep Avery, make some deals. Start the rebuilding mode. The team they have now is obviously not enough to get anything done.

No it was basically the whole clan of Avery, Mark, Donnie decided to go after Kidd. Noone knows who wanted it done the most. Most feel it was Cuban but he didn't want to give up Harris but Donnie did some discussing so idk really, that part was underground if you want to call it. It's not Cuban's fault at all. That's just hating on a successful owner. Donnie Nelson is the one who makes the most changes on the teams. He's the one who signs the deals. But Avery told Donnie and Mark what kind of players he liked. Avery likes the veteran 35 year old bench players. And those are the players who were part of our defeat. Our depth was TERRIBLE because most of our depth was full of old players like Eddie Jones and Jerry Stackhouse.

Plus, every year since the finals year this team has gone downhill, and with the west only getting stronger, changes needed to be made and it needs to be made at the top.

Right now, the Mavs fan base is split 50/50 on whether we should keep Donnie Nelson. I think we should. He's to great of a mind to let go to another franchise. I think we just need a new change of face as the leader.

But couldn't a coach stay with the team and progress (And get better?), like players in the league do?

And people are judging this Kidd deal way to early. Once we made the trade we were racing to find our identity heading into the stretch run. You can never do that, especially at the PG position.

Plus, under Avery's system, a PG has never put up really good numbers. Especially assist totals, because like I said, Avery's offense is isolation offense. So our assists were like in the bottom 10 in the NBA because of our scheme. And if you watched the series against New Orleans, you saw the difference of the offenses. We took tough shots, and struggled to score, while the Hornets got open shot after open shot. Now Paul is the best point guard in the league right now, but Kidd can easily do the same still right now in his stage of his life. But under Avery's system, where Avery was used to controlling what Devin Harris would do, calling the plays, now all of a sudden here comes a top 5 PG of all-time to run our team. And Avery never fully handed off the trust to Kidd. And so the trust issue was never there.

IDK, I think we need an offensive mind. I mean our defense looked terrible in that series, but that was because of another issue.....we are a slow, old team. Again because we have so many old guys on our team.

I don't think any SUPER changes need to be made, Dirk is a Mav for life....If anyone goes it's JET or JH5. And right now, all signs pointing to JH5 because he has more trade value, and because of his versitilaty. But most of all..... we need to get younger off the bench. I'm not saying have a bunch of kids on the bench, but don't have 32-35 year old guys you rely off on the bench.

With the current bunch of players we had (have), we don't have time for that. Dirk is not old but he certainly is not young. He's 29 now. And the organization saw that with the West only getting better, and us getting worse, something needs to be done to prevent what everyone fears... a replay of the 1990's Mavericks.
