Memphis Commerical Appeal -
The Commercial Appeal has learned that the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.

The decision was made that the Grizzlies could no longer move forward with Gasol on and off the basketball court.

The deal allows the Grizzlies to gain salary cap relief, as Brown is in the final year of a deal that pays $9,075,000
WOW when Bynum comes back I think they will have one of the BEST teams in win the West.
I think they will be atleast a 4 seed now.

Wow! The offer price on Gasol has really dropped from last season, when they were asking for Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni and others.

I wonder what Memphis plans to do with Crittenton, since they already have Conley and Lowry...

Kwame - a former #1 overall and Crittendon, a #1, and 2 future #1s, including this years is ALOT

Kwame Brown may have been a #1 overall pick, but if you honestly think he is at the talent level of a #1 overall pick, you are sadly mistaken. Crittenton becomes their 3rd point guard, so he obviously isn't gonna be seeing many minutes and I doubt is in the teams future plans, since both Conley and Lowry are just as young. Lakers got a steal IMO, even with the two draft picks involved.

Wow great pick up by L.A., I guess they weren't lying when they said they were not planning to enter in the Kidd rumors this year

idk - Kwame is hit or miss - might be better in a different system, but definitely not a true #1.

Crittendon will become #2pg.. Grizz are sadly disappointed in Lowry from what I hear.

but the possibility of grabbing 2 more premier players in the next 3 years is alot in my book.. though, Gasol is dependable and sturdy. It'll be fun to watch how he exists as the #2 option, not the main option on offense

I don't think they got owned...

Pau Gasol had no future with the team... He's good, but he's not for them.

Crittenton has some trade value and is young... Lowry may be leaving soon, and they'd then have the top 2 playmakers from the 2007 draft.

The Lakers 2008 pick can get them Kevin Love, Patrick Patterson, Jason Thompson, Andrew Ogilvy, Serge Ibaka, DJ White, Hardin, Hendrix, Jawai... That's a 2nd tier of draft big men.

So a 9-10 mill expiring, a young rookie PG with high trade value, and 2 first round picks for an unhappy player is pretty good... The Grizz won't win with Gasol, so why keep him if they can rebuild by trading him?

I don't know about premier players now... With this acquisition, the Lakers are putting themselves at the top of the Western Conference, so those first are probably gonna be towards the back half. I wouldn't really consider somebody taken with the 23rd pick a premier player, but hey, that's just me.

Also, I don't really think it matters if Crittenton is the #2 or the #3, Conley is still the point guard of the future for that team. If you are going to trade your franchise player, you need to get young players back at positions you need. Seeing how the Grizzlies have SF and PG locked up with Gay and Conley, they should have been looking for a big to replace Gasol (and no, Kwame Brown is not that guy). I'm not saying he was even in the trade talks, but Andrew Bynum is the kind of guy I'm talking about.

Look at what Boston got for Kevin Garnett (obviously a much better player than Gasol, but gives an idea)... Jefferson an emerging star to go on the front line, Gerald Green a high draft pick that still has potential. Along with draft picks and a young point guard in Sebastian Telfair.

Turns out Memphis actually got the other Gasol in this deal as well... Marc Gasol and Aaron McKie were just announced to be part of the deal on ESPN, so I guess it really wasn't that bad. LOL

This can go both ways it just depends on how you look at it.
The best thing for the Grizz was 10Mill expiring and a PG that has Trade Value...Like BKS said the Picks will be low.
The Lakers got the slight edge in this trade.
And I think Gasol will do better as long as hecan follow the Triangle Offense.

Now the Lakers need to trade Vlad/Lamar,Or both.

If I were Memphis I wouldn't of gotten Brown. I would of gotten Bynum and less picks and that stuff. But LA is sold on Bynum. I wonder how Brown will do. He better not take Hakim's time. <_<

Pau Gasol is one of the most overrated players in the NBA. His numbers got worse every year until the Grizzlies became god awful, in which his numbers went up a very little bit. This guy is the exact opposite of what an NBA player is supposed to be. He has "regressed: instead of progressed, with his best season still being his sophmore year.

He is also proving to be a liite injury prone. He missed like 30 games last year and has alreayd missed 6 games this season.

All in all, he is a talented big man in a league today that seems to be missing post prescence. Yes i would also want him on my team, but he is still very overrated.

Bynum is injured and don't you have to pass a physical to be traded? So...

Yea so...they should of waited....but LA wouldn't of done the deal if Bynum had to leave.
By the time Bynum is back, the trade deadline will be long gone, so waiting doesn't really do any good. You're right however that there is no way in hell the Lakers would have traded him, so it really doesn't matter.

Now the Lakers should try to get Kidd...

Maybe
Lamar/Vlad
Derek Fisher
Turioff

Something like that

Or they should try to get a better Small Foward like Artest.

Why would New Jersey trade Kidd without getting young talent in return?
